Post by: Piotr on June 13, 2012, 06:13:14 PM
Would there be anyone interested in helping to translate iMtG interface to their native language on a pro public bono basis, please?

I could do German. I just don't know how to use code or anything like that very well. I would do it of you could show me how.

I could do it for Brazilian Portuguese. I also don't know coding very much, but I believe you could either break it down for us, or we give you the words and you put in coding

The translation file will be along the lines of

"Life Counter", "Licznik Życia"
"Deck Builder", "Budowniczy Deków"

So no coding experience required.

OMG that looks terrible in polish. I'll need help with polish translation as well ;)

I had a friend that got punched for cussing out a german guy in German, so be cautious. I can't speak any foreign languages but I could use google translate :P

"vai tomar no cu" works pretty well here in brazil. The sound you would be in the lines of:
V(insert the English sound for "i" after the v). To(as in TOmato)mo(as in MOther)r(almost unpronounced)  no coo(as in cool, but without L sound). Ain't perfect pronounce, but should fit

I know. But I don't think you are really going to start using a slang you don't even understand the meaning, I just played along

Couldnt all this be done in google translater?

Not quite. Slangs and regional expressions don't usually translate well. For an example, "vai tomar no cu" wololo man something like "f--k you", or "go f--k yourself". Google gets it reasonably well to "f--k off". The more aggressive version of it, though, is "vai tomar no meio do seu cu", which gets translated as "will take in the middle of your ass". Not a very strong translation

While the education is appreciated, maybe a discussion on various swears is not the most appropriate thing for a PG-9 site.

I think using google translate would be a viable option. You're not likely to find translators for all languages to were hoping for, and google translate can help you get a near-accurate translation. If a certain part of the translation doesn't make sense, you could always have a section in "Ideas and Feedback" for corrections from the native speakers.

I did some work on that and now have a test Polish version of main menu. I'll release it in the next version and if it works, we can go ahead.
