I am going to my first FNM tonight...probs going to get my (explicit deleted) handed to me but w/e. Any advice?
Also, should I bring another deck? If so, will people mind if it isn't standard? (I only have one standard deck.)
Most fnm's are standard only, no cards not in standard are allowed (most fnm's, idk about all). If you use a card or cards that aren't in standard they will (hopefully) kindly tell u to remove it. Be on the lookout for uw delver decks and rg wolf run ramp decks. Those seem to be pretty common now, as well as a few infect decks and mono white humans and rdw/burn decks
Hah noo I mean just to play casual while I'm not doing a match! ;D
And thanks for the advice I will plan for those!

Make sure to tak plenty to trade. And yes, having other decks for casual is fine.

Glad I don't go to your store
Mine is two-headed giant legacy. This is nice. Well today it is. Usually standard or modern.
What you bring really depends on the local regulars. For sure bring your trade stuff, and if your FNM is constructed, your deck for the event (and your sideboard) for whatever format it is. Usually standard. I do a draft every FNM, so don't need that deck. I do however bring a Commander deck, because there are lots of people there who like to get in some commander fun before and after the draft, or some silliness between rounds.
Also bring your choice way of tracking life total (dice, phone, or paper/pencil), counters for +1/+1's etc come in handy, and a pen is usually good to have.
Good luck in your first FNM! Hope you do well!
Post results!
Dude I'm at my first FNM too.
I didn't make it...I had to run a flag ceremony for an organization on behalf of the Boy Scouts. It ran from 5 to 7 and FNM starts at 6.
>:(
I thought it was "Friday NIGHT Magic"...not "Friday late afternoon-evening Magic"!!! Oh well. Now I know so I can go next Friday. Thanks for all the advice and I will post results next Friday.
I'm 'bout to leave mine, nobody is really playing a format I play or want to play right now. Legacy and such I can't afford, or draft which I don't want to pay to do. I don't have my standard decks really finished anyway.

If its five rounds it would get done at 11 or 12. So it is Friday night magic. It takes a long time. Each round is an hour long.
Hot daaamn...didn't know it takes that long! Wow...well thanks lol
My shop is doing draft again, it gets a huge turnout as opposed to any other format. But I show up to trade and catchup with people, and make fun of {Vexing Devil}.
Lol {vexing devil} hate. I is just a lonely devil please give me a home!!!!

Its a cool card I like it. (I'm not saying its good so dont /rant at me)
I don't rant over anyone's cards :) I have been play testing a deck that uses Mr. Devil and it's been going well. He has his uses regardless of what some people say (usually the Borg netdeckers whom refuse to think outside the 'norm'). It's been fun to watch an opening hand of first drop devil watch opponent take 4 turn 2 {disentomb} drop him again and then see where it goes from there.
{Vexing Devil} is not a trash card or unplayable, but like anyone would tell you, a card that allows your opponents to choose will often result in them picking the best choice for them, worst for you.
4/3 for one mana and four damage for one mana are both far above the curve, just don't confuse the fact that either side is too good and conclude that the card is too.
His ability is when he enters the battlefield, and by some degree {Thunderous Wrath} may be a better 4-of.
And you can gauge an opponents confidence of their hand an deck on how they respond as well. I've been testing {noxious revival} and {thunderous wrath} also in this deck as well. Just trying to make a burn deck that's viable and not in the norm so to speak. Been experimenting also on a u/r deck that can hold control long enough for a Tamiyo flicker unlimited turn combo. Everyone loves unlimited Consecutive turns lol! Just wish I had friends/relatives whom lived closer to play test more as its hard for me to juggle work/single fatherhood and house upkeep -- and I just can't get into MTGO as I seem to find owning digital cards less meaningful as well as the twitch factor of most people I play against.
TL;DR - 2 year olds don't make good test partners lol

Oh really?
Vexing devil actually is pretty decent.
If Elmo were on all the cards maybe I could convince him to sit still long enough lol!
At least school will be out soon so I can have a larger pool of babysitters for some fNM activity :) how did everyone do tonight btw? Any good FNM stories?

This horrible deck one becomes he mana weaved, and stacked his deck.
I played my shiny new turbo fog in an unofficial sidegame, since FNM was Avacyn draft. Won, took SOOO LONG, but I did win.
{Elmo, the Destroyer of Worlds}
Turbo fog?!?! NO WAY I've never seen that deck! Jk I have. A lot.
I am currently playing my legacy artifact, im gonna kick your butt deck. 2-0 so far. :)
Nice, turbo fog seems like it could be fun although it's not my style. AVR draft for FNM? :/ drafts seem more like a Saturday thing to me, Fridays always standard play. What was the final swing that won your turbo fog game?

It is standard turbo fog. My legacy deck is a Merfolk deck that is pretty much...merfolk. It's in the legacy forum (everything in the deck I actually own too).
The only time I really play legacy is during my Thursday playgroup. FNM is usually my Wolf Run Ramp or U/W Delver.
Edit: {Chalice of Death} won. I had them on the ropes with {Rites of Flourishing}, and I kept recycling with {Elixir of Immorality}

I know it is stAndard. Pretty basic stuff you got there.
I like your Merfolk deck. I've read your deck list. Legacy can beat standard any day. Stick with the unusual stuff instead of the extremely common stuff in standard!

I don't really love standard. It's the most popular, which is why I play, I do like seeing the new cards and using them. If half as many people played Legacy, I'd be in heaven.
Keep bring creative. It seems your losing it with your standard decks.
{chalice of death} and {elixir of immortality} can be a solid combo in the right deck, Iove that combo lol. If I hadn't taken a 10 year magic hiatus I'd be heavy into legacy, but for now I've been enjoying reading others' deck lists to see what I've been missing. Infinite Merfolk deck looks pretty solid, nice collection there!

Well I wouldn't consider any of my decks "creative". They're usually 50% no-brainer, money rares that anyone could put together.
But thank you for the encouragement.
