Title: A Community Deck?
Post by: Prophylaxis on November 26, 2011, 01:22:40 AM
I should start with the main idea.

First of all, we design a standard deck by voting on all of the aspects of it (Archetype, card choices, etc...) and then we perfect it.

Rules:
1. It must be a standard deck and 60 cards.
2. It must be some rogue deck so that we can enjoy building and testing the decklist.

Now that I've got that off, let's see what deck we can make!

Challenge 1: Budget Limit

Before we start to build the deck, we must decide what budget constraints we must adhere to. Choose a money limit and the deck must adhere to it (We may adjust this as the deckbuilding process goes)

Community Vote: $100 as a starting limit.

Challenge 2: Deck Archetype
A deck archetype gives us some room before we choose our deck. Control, aggro, or combo?

Community Vote: Combo

Challenge 3: What's the Deck?
Now that we have the groundwork laid out, we can start brainstorming out what deck we could build.

$60 to $100?  Maybe less, a budget deck.

I'm chiming in with 100-150.

We should go with average then, $100

I agree - 100 seems like a good starting point.

Shall we now propose colour choices? With explanations, of course. I suggest using blue, due to the counter ability, low mana curve on average and the low pricing of majority of it's cards.

I am voting for any color but white......i like blue......how about a splash of green?

Agreed with green, but your reasoning?

On a side, can I also suggest that we can only vote one card at a time to save Mr Magic-Jerk posting a whole deck and telling us that it's the only way to play those colour choices in standard, or that any other card combination doesn't work, etc...

What about a deck focusing on {invisible stalker}, not exactly one of those sword decks but with cards like {inquisitors flail}, {trepanation blade} and {titanic growth}s

I was thinking about u/g self milling deck with {boneyard Wurm} and {back from the brink}

Maybe we should generate some polls in here Spike.

I was actually thinking that we move onto deck archetype before color choices. We can modify the colors a little bit more after archetype.

@Spikepit: Sure.

Right now we move onto deck archetypes.. Control, aggro or combo?

Instead of invisible stalker how about blighted agent?

Moving way too fast on this one. :P
We haven't even decided what deck to play!

I vote combo. ☝

We have a combo corner to exploit for ideas....my vote is combo as well

I'll try combo as well; I have some sweet ideas. The metagame is all-aggro, no combo. (what would you classify wolf-run?)

I'll go ahead and change the OP.

Now, what deck should we build..

My vote is some cool {Genesis Wave} build. I can see the cool stuff happening.

ðŸ'ŒWe will get these cranking soon people, it'll make it much easier to community choose. 😁

I was thinking we could present a few cards that are randomly chosen from standard around which we had to build.

Sounds good, exactly what I was thinking.

Interesting; I'll see when polls are up.

Genesis Wave can be option #1. What else are you looking to build around?
Title: Re: A Community Deck?
Post by: cltrn81 on November 26, 2011, 08:47:56 PM
{back from the brink} higher cost but with green we can add a lil mana ramp....,yes?  Imagine casting a token {Skaab Ruinator} and not having to sac 3 creatures from the graveyard.  Black Jester correct me if I am wrong but you would not have to sac the creatures if cast from {back from the brink}?
Title: Re: A Community Deck?
Post by: cltrn81 on November 26, 2011, 09:49:52 PM
If so then {birthing pod} would combo well with {Skaab Ruinator} since a cheap creature could be sacked to put him in play without the penalty.

Combo could be interesting, guess I'll vote for that

I vote for aggro, that seems like the easiest to build and usually the cheapest

If we are doing combo what about working with cards like. {gutter grime} and {parallel lives} could be fun

If that, then why not add essence of the wild?

The polls are up and ready for your votes players! Polls will be open for two weeks each, starting with format and colour. We will then move onto creatures for two weeks each poll until we have the regular amount of creatures for that format. Then onto other spells following the same process and then rounding off with lands, dual, basic and non-basic.  ;D

Yay!

Looks like some sort of blue combo deck.. {Burning Vengeance}, anyone?

Is two weeks too long?  How about just one week?

Yeah, I was thinking that, but not everyone is on here that often. It would be good to give everyone a chance and not just the usually 10 of us that is on here religiously. ðŸ˜,,

It may take a long time at two weeks per choice.

I'd say a week.
