So i got my hands on 4 Ice Age {Necropotence} and im itching to make a monoblack deck around it! Any help and tips would be appriciated!
Well I was gonna say b/u mill with lab maniac but you said monoblack so I have no idea how to go about building with this card
Try 4x {Dark Ritual} to play it turn one.
{Vampire Nocturnus}
{Dark Ritual}
{Liliana of the Veil}
{phyrexian obliterator} {geralf's messager}
{B.F.M}
What's the point behind the card?

Card advantage. It's THE most powerful magic card that will give multiple turns of card advantage. Match it up with some black cards with lifelink to regain some of that lost life and keep drawing...

So I have to pay one life to do what the game allows me to do at the start of the turn normally. An I dont have to exile a card of I discard.
Still not seeing it.

This.
Don't put any planeswalkers in here. Ruins all the good strategy.

I said the same exact thing not to long ago. But consider the advantage of merely paying 1 life repeatedly to draw a card. It doesn't make sense to a casual player like myself but as Death Gaara has said, card advantage is a MAJOR. Part of the game. Life points are a resource and cards are a resource. Just like you play a card to gain life, you can use life to gain cards. And just like they said, in a deck with a life gain outlet, this card is EXTREMELY useful to acquire the cards you want.

Read this article on these forums. It's a great explanation of the value of card advantage.

What format would this deck be?
{Death's Shadow}
{vampire nighthawk} would be a good fit.
{vampire Nocturnus}+{Necropotence}=good times ;)
I am not a fan of the T1 {Necroptence}......I only play {Necropotence} when the rest of my hand is played and I need more cards. Cuz remember that if you discard a card while it is in play you have to exile it.....do it is not a useful to fill your GY with.
Okay... I think I missed the point, you can draw whenever and how many you want as long as you have the life?

That's the idea, yeah. You don't get those draws until your end step, but then next turn you have major card advantage, and can repeat this at will. If you have life gain or link, even more card advantage. That's what makes the card so appealing.

What format would this deck be?
Either Ice Age, Vintage (where you are only allowed one copy), or an anything goes Casual. And, due to its powerlevel, (it's over 9000) I'd be 😡 if my opponent played more than one.
@Jester: You think people would frown upon using a whole playset? I dont want to seem like a douche...
@Playset: Im going casual since then theres no "Hardcore" pressure to do well or use über combos.

If it were me, I'd stick with one unless you asks your opponents if they mind. If I play against someone playing 4 {Tinker}s and four Moxes, well... it's just not cool (Karn - DotP, I'm looking at you!)
{Necropotence} was banned in it's time for dominating the scene. And now, especially in a format that allows {Dark Ritual}s, {Drain Life}s, and {Tendrils of Agony}. Yikes!

agreed but sorin made quite nifty when I had a deck like this
{Corrupt}, {drain life}, {cabal coffers}, {lake of the dead}.
