Title: Mana dorks
Post by: Hakuu on June 02, 2012, 11:43:03 PM
My buddy used {mind sludge} and tryed to count his mana dork as a swamp. Is that allowed or does it only count basic lands?

It says add 1 mana to your pool doesn't say you have to use it.  You can tap all your lands too if you want

Only land cards that specifically say "swamp" in the type are considered swamps for effects like mind sludge. This is usually going to be just basic lands, but older sets will have non-basic lands with types too like {bayou} way back and as recent as things like {watery grave} in Ravnica. They are also swamps - it says so in the card type line! Other non basic land that does not say swamp on that type line is not a swamp, even if it produces black mana.

Black mana {B} =/= {Swamp}
