A couple questions relating to the two mechanics of {Aerie Ouphes}.
1. Can you sacrifice them if there would be no valid target for the damage? I am pretty sure it is "no," but the entire sacrifice cost clause being alone on the left of the colon is making me second guess myself.
2. {Melira, Sylvok Outcast} being on the battlefield causes persist to trigger and the creature to come back without the counter, correct? So Melira paired with {Aerie Ouphes} would cause a repeatable loop of sacrificing Ouphes to damage fliers until the board is clear of flying creatures. Is this correct?
And in case you're wondering "why" for #1, Melira + Ouphes + {Rage Thrower}-type effects. Whee!
to activate an ability or cast a spell you must have a valid target
Swap the Ouphes for {Murderous Redcap}, and you've got yourself a date! To heck with fliers! ;D
I figured, guess I'll just have to settle for flying wipe + insane rage damage only if someone has flying :P
Thought about the redcap Jester, but the Ouphes being 3/3 and able to sac itself just make it so appealing to me. But if that redcap could sacrifice for any reason...oh what glory would be had.
Hmm but couldn't you make the redcap kill itself with its own dmg? ;)
But does that other card make sure it doesn't get a -1/-1 counter? I thought with persist it was put into graveyard, then bought back into play with the counter. The other card might not effect the persist creature while it was in the graveyard?
Hmm scratch that it says when this creature dies. So I spose it doesn't go into the graveyard?
It goes to the gy, then persist brings it back and tries to put a -1/-1 counter on it, but Melira says "Nuh, uh!"
There are tons of sac outlets: {Viscera Seer}, {Goblin Bombardment}, {Phyrexian Altar}, {Altar of Dementia} to name some of my favs.

That thought did not occur to me. Perhaps adding a couple redcaps would've worth it after all! Now where to fit them in this deck...
