I am attempting to Begin my EDH/Commander journey, but I just don't know where to start. I've tried selecting a commander, but how can I if I dont even know what I want my deck to do? Help me find my way.
My suggestion (as one who has never played a game of EDH ;)) is to go in either direction you prefer. You could either think of an idea and look for commanders that would work well with that idea. Or you could browse your collection/the database for legendary creatures until you run across one that piques your interest.
I also want to start edh. Is there a legendary that acts as a tutor?

I'm totally biased, but EHD/Commander, is the best format all around. Giant card pool, budget decks can stomp, and you only ever need one of a card. {Glissa the Traitor} is a fantastic Commander with great synergy.
EDH is probably one of the best formats. Besides some annoying commanders (I'm looking at you {Gisela}). It's the best social magic, without any of the worry of having to top deck everything. The modified mulligan rules are great, and counters pretty much don't exist (since you only get 1, it's unreliable to attempt to top it).
Start by finding a commander you like, and play into their strengths. Commanders color identity will determine your deck.
Competitive Commander exists, I can't admit to being a fan of it. The spirit lies in working together and making alliances

(in a Bevis voice): so you have, like, 2 asses?
... *sigh*
My first edh was started:
a) because my group started playing edh
b) because I really wanted to include {nicol bolas, planeswalker} in a deck

Im sorry about that... I was so damn hyper.
Here's a fun tip using iMtG to help you find your first commander.
1: pick a color you for sure want in your deck (anything you personally find fun).
2: go to iMtG's card database. Select "filter" up top.
3: select your color(s) (leave "match exactly" turned off unless searching for a specific multicolor combination or just mono-color)
4: Turn off search by "name" and turn on "type"
5: search for "Legendary"
And there's a list of all legendaries with that color that you can choose as a commander. browse away and see what floats your boat.
For your first deck, I recommend not playing a mono-color deck. This is just my personal experience but I feel that in commander, 2 and 3 color decks are just more to play with and against. More...zazz.
^^agreed^^
Thanks, guys! I've spent the past week building my EDH deck (I chose {Animar, Soul of Elements} as my general) and proxying up the cards I don't have now. Any tips for beginning? I'm running what I think will be enough mana fixing, some low- cost artifact creatures, some Eldrazi and then everything in between with a pretty nice pool of control to pull off of. Any kind of tips to set me in the right direction would be appreciated!
A fine choice for a commander! The great thing about him is he lets you have some real versatility with your deck. With that guy as your commander, you should make sure your deck is relatively creature-heavy, since your goal will be to get as many counters on Animar and as many super-cheap-to-cast big critters because of it and flood the battlefield with power.
A few things I recommend adding besides creatures of your liking - {Inexorable Tide} will help you even if you have no infect. It will let you proliferate the counters on your general every time you cast a creature, resulting in 2 counters per creature instead of 1. You may also want a few {counterspell} type spells to stop board wipes like {day of judgment}. Odds are, with your creature based deck, a wipe is going to hurt you more than anyone else at the table, and having blue in your deck makes it easy to say "nuh-uh."
Wow! I added tide immediately. And yes, I anticipate boardwipes being the biggest problem to me, so I have a few counterspells and I may add more. I think I've found a good mix of cards to begin playtesting. I would offer to upload my deck for comments/ critiques, but every time I try to share a deck it doesnt work. :/

Well, it worked. Huh. Nevermind!
You might Want to add some protection for aminar, because I would hate to see him doom bladed when he has 10 counters on him

I've got counterspells and a couple shrouding/ hexproofing spells. Hopefully that should keep her covered.
