Title: All You Need is Pod.
Post by: Coffee Vampire on May 23, 2012, 01:38:32 AM
Yes...so as the title suggests, all you need is {Birthing Pod} to make a pro deck! I love the pod. My reason? A pod deck is as close to a legacy reanimation deck that you have ever seen in standard.

A legacy reanimation deck lets you search out your library and get you any boss creatures you want, through the outlet of your graveyard. Well, a pod deck can get you anything in your library through the outlet of your birthing pod!

I actually consider birthing pod superior in that you don't even need to send things to the graveyard to cheat them in. You can just grab em! Of course, you need enter the battlefield effects, and a way to win without the pod. But that is simple: just add mana suppliers like birds! (Birds of Paradise) That way, you may be able to get things out faster than you would WITH the pod!

But anyways, moral of the story is I think pods are amazing. Like, we are talking frigginfantasticangelballz amazing. So my question is...can you think of anything that can replace the pod once it rotates?

I love pod too!!! Naya or bant all the way!!! But as for replacing it...probably some kind of frites or a deal with somberwald sage for massive ramp. It'd be more empty your library into gy kinda thing sadly unless there's something in RTR

I think with uniqueness it brings to standard you may NOT be able to replace it without changing a good bit of identity of the theme.

Pod allowed for easy side boarding because if you need an arty or enchantment gone you pod away a {Solemn Simulacrum} to go get an {Acidic Slime} and remove threats. Then the slime became titan fodder.

I think the building possibilities with Pod decks put them in their own room and given a few more off reprints years later would be it's own legacy archetype. Just my $0.02.

If I was going to build a pod deck, what are good things to throw in?

My friend has a pretty. Ballin pod deck. It is GRW. If he doesn't draw pod then he can just hard cast elesh by turn 3 because of birds and somberwald. He is always making it better...I will be sad when it rotates. :(

Also just a side note: they had better reprint birds or I will rage. Hard.

I've always liked the idea of a pod, and I've played against many. What I don't like, as a player, is relying on a card that I can't be guarentee to draw. Also, destroying the pod is a possibility too. I know every card has a counter, but {birthing pod} is subjective to removal, as well as the creatures it births. I have a feeling they'll bring {birthing pod} back in M13.

I wonder If {birthing pod} can be improved, and if so, how?

Improved by permanent rather than creature and thus a new name and becoming a mythic rare haha

Maybe a new Birthing Pod that gives the creature Hexproof till the end of turn, or maybe it soulbonds with the creature to give both of them Hexproof? Probably OP, maybe this:

4
Birthing Capsule
3, T. Sacrifice a creature: Search your library for a creature card with converted mana cost equal to 1 plus the sacrificed creature's converted mana cost, put that card onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.

You lose 1 life for each untapped land you control whenever Birthing Capsule is activated.

Birthing Capsule gives Hexproof to creature put onto the battlefield this way as long as Birthing Capsule is still on the battlefield.

Awesome! But I like permanent too cause it means you can bring out PWs and sac them too
