Post by: Goblinking on May 22, 2012, 12:30:56 PM
Ok so I quite a group of guys who play just because I traded him a sorin for 2 rares and 2 uncommons. I only made the trade because my little bro plays and needed one {mayor of avabruck} which was one of the rare cards in said trade 4 months later and still nocard a handed him th sorin on his word he would bring the mayor the next time we played. How would u go about geting the card?

call it a loss and tell your whole playgroup he ripped you off.

I assume this is hypothetical because that's a really lopsided dealio.

If he did that.... He probably wants to get ripped off. So I would assume he just doesn't know any better.

Normally I could trade like that with anyone in the group and have before and they have done the same with me we kicked him from the group and that was right before I left the group normally these trades work fine because everyone had some integrity in the group I've always traded fairly he offered the trade I said sure kinda a loss my friend is hopefully geting the card for me cause Ik if I go to there will be problems and we never had problems with this person before

If it was literally just the first time. Maybe he forgot it? Things like that happen.

Do what i did when my friend graduated from my high school, taking the Pokemon game i lent him: call the police. That card is techneccly yours until the trade has been done and finalized. And thus, the card is stolen property- YOUR stolen property.

That seems a little steep. I mean he got the rest of the trade, right? Would it really be worth ruining a kids life over a stupid card?

That's a bit extreme of an action to take, and the police have much more important things to do than be called in about a trading card deal misunderstanding. And besides, by giving that card willingly, regardless of an intended deal or not, proving it as a stolen good isn't likely to hold up well as a legal argument.  Please don't call the police unless you are in danger or being seriously threatened by this person.

The best thing to do is solve it like civilized people. Confront this person, remind him of the deal you made, and kindly, without accusing, say its been a long time and you need the cards he promised you or you need your sorin back. You might be surprised as how far civility can go.

If for some reason this person says no and refuses to complete the trade or return your card, then talk to someone who can help. Where did this trade happen? If it was at a card shop, talk to the shop owner. If you are young and he is a kid in your school or something, your parents and teachers may be able to help you. If he is in your social group, talk to friends of yours that are friends of his, maybe they can talk some sense into him.

This. Chalk it up to a loss. It's an expensive card, and it sucks, but there will be other cards. Just don't trade something you're not comfortable losing. Good faith or not.

My playgroup are my friends first, and MtG is fun. We don't fight over cards, and that's that. I left a $1,000 deck with my playgroup, because they wanted to try it. Some of them have multiple expensive cards that we share for tournaments. If anything ever happened, I'd lose lots of money. A $30 Sorin card wouldn't ruin our friendship, and it shouldn't ruin yours. Ask him for the cards, or tell him you need Sorin back. If that's all it takes to breakup your group, then it probably isn't worth it to begin with.
