Title: Good "Bad" Cards
Post by: Leviathan on May 21, 2012, 10:15:52 PM
So I was thumbing through my binder and keep passing over cards that seem fun in useful ways. I as guys around my local shop and I keep hearing that cards are "terrible", "unplayable", "horrible in standard", among other things. While this is sometimes true almost EVERY card IS playable somewhere and being the half-Spike and half-Johnny I am I try to find those places.

My question to you is what card or cards do you love that many would consider to be terrible or unplayable?

the bringer cycle i guess? cheating them out with prismatic mana just seems so fun. they aren't bad per se but are completely off the radar.

e.g. {bringer of the white dawn} {bringer of the blue dawn}

Off the radar is a good way to put it lol. I've never played with bringers... May do that soon

I've found that almost anything is good in edh. It's crazy that back in the day {Serra angel} was an it card. I remember {shivan dragon} being my best card at one point. Now they just take up space.

Right?

{exalted angel} was a 15-20$ card back in the day too. With creatures like {vorapede} they really put older creatures to shame.

Some of the cards like {warp world} , {crazed firecat} and { goblin game} were some of my favorite cards because they are brain picker and luck cards. I have no deck that can use these. But I like them.

I started in the Alara Block so when M10 rolled around and I pulled {Shivan Dragon} I thought it was a wasted pack... I later befriended a mtg vet and he explained the history of it. Now I want an old one so bad lol

What in the heck does Goblin Game do? What are "objects" supposed to be? What?

What we do in my shop is take a D-20 and we all pick a number and whom ever has the lowest number looses everyone takes the amount of damage for the number they choose and the person with the lowest number loses half of their life total after they take the number they chose to their life total

We've had some intense things before. One game, we legit played a game of Easter egg hunt to find each others items. We decided that if you hide it well enough that no one finds it, that you can reveal it and it'll count as two for one.  40 minutes later, two people died the next turn and it came down to me and my friend, each with 3 life. It's an interesting card but I have only used it in a really old deck

You forgot {force of nature} he was a beast back in the day.  My friend had a mean green deck that ran those, mana ramp, and {yavimaya ants} that was really good.  It was one of those decks he never wanted to take apart do he took an eraser and erased all the black borders and colored them blue lol.

{glittering wish} there are enough multicolor bombs to go for a 5 color control list.

I know I play it in a lot of decks. Especially with {claws of valakut} in mono-red. They end up never blocking then they have to and  POW
gg bro.
