Title: Faithless Miracles
Post by: SpiritedAway on May 21, 2012, 01:31:31 PM
How does {Faithless Looting} work with Miracles, especially with {Reforge the Soul}?

What I assume is that miracles overide the rules of the "you cant play a card before discarding it." what seems strange to me is how miracle would trigger in the middle of an effect. For example:

Target player draws a card (MIRACLE!!!), then discards a card.

With {Reforge the Soul}, would you draw it, miracle it, discard your whole hand, draw your new seven then discard at random from the new seven?

Also, how sweet is the name of this thread?

{Faithless looting} is a sorcery, so even if you unveiled a miracle it's likely not the 1st card you drew that turn.

Secondly, {Faithless Looting} says draw 2 cards, then discard 2 cards. No time to cast any of them.

First, great name. Second, since miracles trigger if they are the first card drawn that turn and {Faithless Looting} is a sorcery, it's probably not going to do anything.

But let's say you somehow skipped your first draw (Let's say you have a {Necropotence} on the field). Then you cast Looting and the first card you draw is {Vanishment}. Now, as you draw it you have a choice, reveal it, leave it revealed and have the trigger wait until looting is done resolving or put it in your hand and lose the miracle option.
After that, you finish resolving the looting by discarding two cards. If the two drawn are the ony two in your hand you must discard them both. If you chose to reveal {Vanishment}, the trigger will now go on the stack and you will have the option to cast it or not even if you discarded it. If {Vanishment} is no longer in your hand when this trigger resolves you can't cast it.

Here's the official rules again:
702.92a Miracle is a static ability linked to a triggered ability (see rule 603.10). "Miracle [cost]" means "You may reveal this card from your hand as you draw it if it's the first card you've drawn this turn. When you reveal this card this way, you may cast it by paying [cost] rather than its mana cost."

702.92b If a player chooses to reveal a card using its miracle ability, he or she plays with that card revealed until that card leaves his or her hand, that ability resolves, or that ability otherwise leaves the stack.

So the miracle would resolve after all of the looting effect would resolve (and it doesn't have to be Faithless, that's just what came to mind first, it could be {Merfolk Looter} for all I care).

So if you have no cards in hand and you use {Desolate Lighthouse}, you could not use the miracle because it would need to be discarded first, right?
