Title: New Proliferate
Post by: MetalMadMan on May 15, 2012, 05:13:45 PM
The Scars of Mirrodin block was huge on proliferate right... I was just wondering if WoTC is gonna keep it going in the upcoming sets.

Do to the fact that a lot of the current innistrad block cards have undying counters, and other counters...

What does the forum think...

Meh, I'd say a few cards that proliferate, but nothing crazy. Maybe a few in the next core set

It will probably be a few years from now. Look at scry it was in time spiral and wasn't brought back in m11. That was about 5-7 year gap.

magic rarely fully revisits old mechanics. the only exceptions i can think of are flashback charge counters and kicker. otherwise mechanics will only be touched a little sometimes in core sets and commemmoration blocks like time spiral

MaRo (Mark Rosewater, a name you should all know) has stated that during the design of Shards of Alara, that they need to be more careful with design resources and that every block including and following will recycle an old keyword ability.  There are a number of reasons, which you can read for yourself here:

http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/mm/154

Shards had cycling
Zendikar had Kicker
M11 brought back Scry
Scars did Imprint
M12 gave us Bloodthirst
Innistrad is Flashback

If a keyword ability worked out well and players liked it, it will probably be brought back someday.  Just don't expect it anytime soon, there's lots to bring back.  ;)
