Title: Cheapest($) legacy deck
Post by: Clearmario on May 12, 2012, 08:39:23 PM
My card shop is hosting a legacy tournament next month and was wondering what is the cheapest competitive ( price wise ) deck to build.

I guess Affinity or Merfolk. Artifact lands are cheap and some affinity creatures and cheap artifacts are cheap. Budget Merfolk is decent too, what do you mean by cheap? Like several hundred dollars of less then a hundred? Legacy gets expensive

Less then $100 preferably. I'm on a college student budget

Affinity then. You can put a decent one (and could double as a Pauper deck) for around $60. Using all common cards. Will it win a legacy tournament? I'd say no...will you have a chance? Depends on the matchups you get.

How fast is legacy and what kinds of decks would I have to watch for?

Depends, but it can be as quickly as turn 3 kills. It's about who exactly you're playing. The power 9 are banned. Archtypes to expect are dredge, hive mind, burn, elves, merfolk and rogue. It depends who's in the tournament with you.

True. I don't see a lot of Legacy decks running Glimmer, because it's expensive and you can do without it.

According to MTG stats, {Glimmervoid} is run in about 21% of Legacy Affinity decks, as a 2-of. Modem Affinity at 81% of the time as a 4-of. The reason is none of the Artifact lands are banned in Legacy. {Mox Opal} i'd say is a more important investment (and a more expensive one).

Lol well mine is shaped for modern instead of legacy but ima fix it for the legacy grand prix in Atlanta I'm so excited :3 anywho {Mox opal} will likely drop after October when scars cycles out not too much but make it that much more affordable and even if you end up buying more than a playset(like me XD) it's good trade fodder

Don't expect the price to drop. If anything I'd expect the price to rise as there'd be an even more limited number of them on the market
