Title: Making decks
Post by: Imdowd80 on May 11, 2012, 01:46:38 AM
It's weird, I like playing magic, I like the idea of building decks....but I can never get around to building new decks. Anyone else have this problem?

The way draft works, and more or less deck building works is...find a card you like, and build around it. Sounds simplistic but it's true. If you find a card that's like "wow, I can do something with this.." then you can find cards that interact and have synergies. With the Avacyn I have a number of
things in mind, and the only way to see if it works is to match wits with others.

If you want to win local tournaments or destroy your friends, then net deck (copy tournament/established decks from the Internet). Is it fun? For a short while without a doubt.

I have a hard time {Dismantl}ing decks. I've usually got around 12-14 completed decks and 5-8 in various stages of development. They're like my children.

That sounds exactly like me.  I have 14 decks built and a ton of project decks in the works ;)

I think my problem is, I just have so many cards that I feel overwhelmed. Plus I dot wanna look online and make a copy of a deck. I want it to be all me. Plus a little help from you guys when I post it on here.

I prefer theme over building around a single card, though the two often coincide. For me the first step is always "what do I want this deck to accomplish?" do you like the idea of attacking with a massive swarm of flying creatures? A big unstoppable monster? Do you want to focus on combat, control, burn, or tricks? And so on. Then start picking cards that compliment each other around that theme.

Granted, often that idea for a theme is sparked by a certain card (for example a  life gain control deck inspired by {drogskul reaver})

I look for theme first, like I wanna stop my oppents ETB with {torpor orb} then bounce it using {venser} but I dot know where to begin... And I wanna use GUW. So I can throw my host of herons in there as well.
