Why is mental misstep, ponder, and preordain banned? I'm also stoneforge mystic is in duels of the Planeswalkers, so why is it banned?
For being far to broken lol
{Ponder} and {Preordain} were banned to slow the combo rate as some players in tournaments were winning way too quick and unfairly, especially now due to cards like {Snapcaster Mage}.
{Mental Misstep} was banned due to it slowing the pace of tournament and dominating the leader boards. It's a counter for no mana that you can hypothetically pump out 4 in the first turn. It just was not cool.
{Stoneforge Mystic} was fine ... ish, until equipment such as {Argentum Armor} and {Batterskull} came into existance. She meant that the was a chance of having one of these equipments out in the third turn and combined with {Brass Squire} for example, you have the game won.
And she's in Duels of the Planeswalkers because {Gideon Jura} say so! Are you gonna argue with him? I'm not!!!
The Mystic is in there because a) it's a game people can play at home (casual) and not in major tournaments for money and b) the DotP decks are all controlled. You'll notice she doesn't get to search for a {Batterskull} in that deck. By herself, she's strong, with {Batterskull} she's BAH-ROKEN!
Hear hear!
Thanks for answering
Actually you are aloud to use {Stoneforge Mystic}, but only if she is in the DotP deck and the deck has not been altered in any way.
True. Although I think this format is going to be slowly phased out in favor of Modern though.
True.
I would agree. All modern is is a beefed up version of extended.
I like the idea that Modern never rotates anything out. It just adds. But it doesn't have any of the nutty stuff from the early days like Urza's block.
