Title: Cloudshift flingings!
Post by: Quackmaster5 on May 08, 2012, 09:23:48 AM
Quick question on fling and sacing. If I have {maligus} and intend to {fling} him at an opponent, could I in response to sacing him then {Cloudshift} him or can I not respond to the sacing?

When you sac something it is part of casting the card therefore it is in the GY before you or anyone else has a chance to respond.  This is a good thing, for instance let's say you have a {malignus} in play, once you announce that you are playing {fling}, no one can respond till you put the spell on the stack by paying the mana and sac'ing the creature.  My point is don't let anyone say they will respond to your {fling} by {doom blade} or any other form of killing your creature cuz they cannot.

Thanks for the advice. The reason why I ask is bc I have a RW fling deck and I was wondering if there was a way to save {maligus} from dying so I could essentially fling repeatedly with him. Bc I only have one at this point and would like a way to reuse him. Any advice on cards to do so? I have no preferences bc I play casual and use any formats.

{Defy Death} or toss in a splash of black for {Undying Evil}.

Use {cauldron haze} or {cauldron of souls} before you fling him.

Edit: you could have another creature enchanted with {dual casting} or use {reverberate} to copy {fling} and fling the new malignus that comes back with persist.

Thanks for the advice. If i reverberate fling, it will still use maligus even though he has already been saced, right?

And I was thinking about possibly using {souls fire} then fling. One hit KO. Or of course a {curse of the bloodletting} as BJ has previously mentioned in another combo thread.

Another question about cloudshift, if I use it on a soulbonded creature that is not the "soulbonder", is it still soulbonded? Bc i still control the creature even though it was blinked.

{Soul's Fire} and {Fling} won't kill your opponent with {Malignus}.  If you resolve the Soul's Fire, you'll deal half your opponent's life, but then your Malignus will get smaller.  Same thing goes for copying the soul's fire because it will recheck when the second one resolves.  You can't really stack them either because Soul's fire checks that the creature is still under your control.
{Fling} can be copied because the P/T is "locked in" once you sac your guy.  Your enemy's life total won't affect the damage from {Fling} at that point.

tl;dr {Soul's Fire} works with damage doubling effects ({Furnace of Rath}, {Curse of Bloodletting}, {Inquisitor's Flail} <- combat damage), {Fling} is good for copying.

Edit:  If you're playing this stuff, {Heartless Hidetsugu} is fun!

re: {cloudshift} + soulbound
Anytime a creature leaves the bf and returns, it is considered a new creature.  It forgets everything from its past life, including pairing.  You can re-pair (;D) as it comes back.

One last question. If I blink something with a kicker cost, can I pay it again when it comes back into play? Or is it when I cast it?

Reverberate would mirror the fling without causing the player to sac another creature.

I think {rush of blood} is the card you are looking for to combo with your fling.
