Title: Kiln Fiend + Storm
Post by: Jekawo on May 05, 2012, 02:17:38 AM
If i have "Kiln Fiend" in play, and play a spell like "Ground Rift" will each successive copy count up on "Kiln Fiend"s ability?

Yes. Each copy of the spell is being "cast".

Awesome. Thanks a lot. How about if i play a spell like gigadrowse and replicate it, would that count too?

Derp it's late I'm sorry, replicate totally works. Also, use curly brackets to link stuff. {{}}

Also also, {Kiln Fiend}, {Ground Rift}, {Gigadrowse}

Ok awesome. But say i play a {Gut Shot} {Stromkirk Noble} and then 2 {Ground Rift} how many times would the last {Ground Rift} actually get played?

The first rift gets played 3 times, and the second rift gets played 6 times. Man screw the rift, use {Grapeshot}!

Nah, it's still {Kiln Fiend} that is the main card.

Yeah, and then an {Assault Strobe} for good measure, and we're golden.

Man, that's.. A 30 damage combo possible on turn 5, faster if you have things like {Seething Song}..

You only need 3 mana a {Lava Dart} a {kiln fiend} and 2 {assault strobe}s. Then its a turn 3.

 wait wait....i dont think the copies made by storm affect storm because your not casting they are copied while on stack...i could be wrong though...

The spells are still cast, since each of the copies needs to resolve on its own and each one can be countered and stuff.

.. I think.

{Fling} the {Kiln Fiend} for the win.

resolving a spell does not mean it was cast. casting is the movement of a spell(card?) to the stack from another zone. copies aren't explicitly cast unless said so e.g. {isochron scepter}

why does this specificly matter? all the storm copies have storm so going by your logic this woulg cause them to trigger into infinity. and if they didn't a later storm spell would count the copies as resolving changing the scaling of storm spells from linear to exponential making even non infinite storm comboes overpowered.

its actually intuitive. storm says when this spell is cast etc. the storm copies also have storm. if the copies were indeed cast you would repeat the storm trigger for each copy... which just lands you with more storm copies with storm triggers to go through

Not that the storm copies have storm, but do they count for {Kiln Fiend}. Specifically are the copies of e.g. {scattershot} all gonna resolve {kiln fiend}s +3/+0 ability?

fact:
storm copies have storm

myth: storm copies are cast

k rule 706.10 there's a rules function in this app

706.10. To copy a spell or activated ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isn't cast and a copy of an activated ability isn't activated. A copy of a spell or ability copies both the characteristics of the spell or ability and all decisions made for it, including modes, targets, the value of X, and additional or alternative costs. (See rule 601, "Casting Spells.") Choices that are normally made on resolution are not copied. If an effect of the copy refers to objects used to pay its costs, it uses the objects used to pay the costs of the original spell or ability. A copy of a spell is owned by the player under whose control it was put on the stack. A copy of a spell or ability is controlled by the player under whose control it was put on the stack. A copy of a spell is itself a spell, even though it has no spell card associated with it. A copy of an ability is itself an ability.
