Or this tiny, tiny version: he sacrificed himself (as did others) against Yawgmoth.

I can def. see the setup, "return of the weathertight", with karn having something to do with it.

His eyes (which gave him the ability to plainswalk) were the {meek stone} and the {might stone} so his disembodied head became a part of the legacy weapon which was sacrificed along with him and Gerard to destroy Yawgmoth. But in this Karn's plainswalker spark awakened (or he inherited Urza's)
