Post by: Dudecore on September 04, 2012, 02:53:49 PM
I figured as I approach nearly 1,000 posts, I should do something positive for the board. We have some redundant threads, and no real place for someone to introduce themselves. Hopefully the mods feel free to hijack this post and add popular topics of discussion.

I find it ironic that two of those threads up there were made by a banned member.

Duals of the Planeswalkers 2013? If the deck you're having a problem with is Chandra, I suggest a deck like "Peacekeepers". In general white decks are easy to play, have ways to gain life, ways to control creature attacking and lots of weak creatures that can swarm.

White is usually the best of all playstyles. It doesn't draw cards (that's blue), it doesn't accelerate your mana (green), it doesn't destroy creatures (red and black) but it does similar things.

Welcome aboard. You wanna play Standard huh? Luckily for you, this is one of the best standard environments in a long time. All five colors are good, and with a few exceptions are worth exploring.

The question of how to amass a new collection is going to be based around your budget. If you've got money to spend the the sky is the limit. What kind of player are you? Do you like casting big creatures? Controlling the board? Our standard forum has plenty of decks ranging from expensive to budget.

Thanks for the reply!!! I recently DL magic online and ive been enjoying the exalted decks along with the goblins, as far as budget im not trying to spend a fortune but i know starting a new collection and wanting to play competitivley is going to require a little, i am really looking forward to going to my local game shops for FNM with new game types like two headed giant and pack wars ive been missing out!!!

That's great. Exalted is a relatively inexpensive aggro deck to build. It's also fun, and gets out of hand very quickly. {Sublime Archangel} and {Silverblade Paladin} are likely the most expensive cards you'd be looking for.

FNM is a place to learn abunch about Magic and how it plays, win great prizes and meet new people. Magic is the most popular it has ever been, with record setting attendance at events around the world. It's as good a time as any to get back into it.

'Ello, the name's Wynn. I've been playing for about ten months now, and have had this app forever, but never checked this forum (lol), but anyways, I've mainly come here for advice. I want to start playing more competively, in the ten months I've played, I've never made top 8, but been close once every month, and it's starting to frustrate the fudge out of me. :/ my current competitive decks consist of; Green Aggro Beatdown (Mana ramp elves, craterhoof), Green/Blue/White Defender Mill (Axbane/Alchemist combo, Tamiyo, and the only white I've got right now is a playset of cloudshifts and one resto) and Selesnya token beatdown (Everything token wise, parallel lives/intangible virtue). This week I just got fuggin swamped by this meta deck consisting of RDW and early game zombies. I mainly need help building sideboards, because I honestly never build them because I can't switch out cards. Help?

Thanks, Wynn

Firstly, Welcome to the forum side of the app!

Secondly, it sounds like your meta is always changing (which creates a healthy environment for new ideas and counter strategies). This also means that having a sideboard for your deck is really imoortant, allowing you to recover for game 2 (and 3). Knowing what to side out is an art in itself, but it also allows you to create a far more focused deck.

If RDW type decks are your problem you might want to look at things like hexproof or indestructiblility for your creatures/permenants and hexproof for yourself too ({Witchbane Orb} for example). Protection also works here.

Keep thinking and enjoy the challenge :)

Hello everyone. I really never introduced myself so here it goes: I played MTG about 10-12 years ago but I joined the U.S. Army and kind of left everything behind in storage. While away, my storage was broken into and all my cards were stolen. Luckily for me, I had a good friend while I was stationed in Germany that found out I loved to play MTG and luck has it, he was quitting the game. He ended up GIVING me about 25k cards. They followed me throughout my different duty stations around the world but never really made it out of the boxes. About a year after I left the service, I started organizing and attempting to play again. It has been a fun, adventurous journey ever since and an addiction at that. I want to thank everyone that has helped with my builds and traded with me!

Hello, kudos to the creator of this app/community
Played when I was 10-12 when revised and 4th were released...then stopped for a long time, made a demon/destruction deck for .poo.s and giggles a few years back (picked up a tutor for a buck!) and then most recently met my GF who played and had some EDH decks... Dropped about $150 on eBay and now have quite a collection to assemble from.
Thanks to people geekin' on cards I don't need; I've only spent $140 on my collection and that includes a box of Gatecrash :)

Definitely more interested in Vintage/Legacy and EDH play... Probably will buy Into some standard tournaments at my local shops (nextgen & Melrose music/cOmics)

Hellooo,

I was introduced to magic a week ago and I'm pretty hooked already.

Any tips for a new player? I currently have a black vampire deck and a red and black vampire deck... What else is good and easy to understand? (I've been told NO MORE VAMPIRES!!)

Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

Hello everybody!

I've been playing mtg for about a year and a half now, and just discovered this community a few days ago. I'm not so much as a competitive player as I am a collector. There's nothing better than holding a rare vintage card in your hands. But I always enjoy a good game!

Hope to see you all around the community!

Well it seems as though I have been rude. I have been on the forum for about a month and have failed to introduce myself. My name is Alan and I have been playing since Devember. I am 45 and married to a wonderful woman, Lisa, who plays with me but I have not gotten her to go to FNM, yet:). I am in seminary and will be a pastor soon so not all Christians think this game is evil, it is not. I look forward to learning more from the knowledgeable people on this forum.

Hey guys and gals.  New to the app and have been thread stalking for about a week or so, figured it was time to say hi!  I primarily play White-Red or Artifact decks but will dabble in White-Insert Color Here just to mix it up a bit.

Just wanted to say hi, been playing off and on since i was a freshman in high school, about 1994.  Spent about 1000$ of my parents money and ended up giving up my cards to a close friend before leaving for college.  I started collecting again seriously about a year ago and now that i have a good paying job and independence i can buy whatever i want (whithin reason of course, heh heh.). I mainly collect money rares, utility rares, revised dual lands and cards that have special meaning to me.  Been lurking around these forums for a while.  I now live in the Orange County / Los Angeles county area and would like to get together and have some fun with like minded people.

Have a good day everyone, and good luck.

Hello all! I figured that I'd pop in here and make my presence known. I've been playing M:tG off and on since Mercadian Masques, occasionally dabbling into the odd tournament here and there. Recently, I "rediscovered" the game at my local hobby shop; one conversation with a friend that worked there, who had been overlooking the FNM gathering, and a few purchases later...

I live in the Tampa Bay area. Feel free to hit me up on here for a game or two, online or offline! Looking forward to being part of the community.

I guess I should have started by posting here, oh well better late then never. I just signed up here about two weeks ago, and I have been playing MTG since The Dark was released. I really did not start playing competitively until about 4 years ago. I attend PTQs, GPs and TCG max point series. I Pastor two churches in NY, am happily married and have two beautiful daughters, ages 4 and 6. That about wraps it up.

Welcome to iMtG! This is a great, and responsive community, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask away. If its rules specifically, check out the Rules section, there's a "Rules Q&A and FAQ" topic at the top, where Dudecore neatly compiled the rulings and yours truly did an FAQ section. If your question wasn't answered there, ask away! Have a good day or night yourself!

My mono red burn deck another part of this apps forum told me it was bad. I paid 23 dollars for it and this apps deck builders said it goes on average for 15 dollars. Im new to magic but my friend stomps me with his red white deck and his Boris recknoner costs more than my whole deck. Greetings fellow MtG players! The name is Logan. I once played magic back in the day when I was younger. I only recently started taking it up again. I currently have 2 standard decks, G/W Human Aggro & R/U Izzet, which I will post soon.

This is the best app I've downloaded. It lead me here. I've been a silent observer for the last couple days, but I really like these boards and wanna participate. I'm hoping to increase my magic I.Q. as well as my deckbuilding skills. I also wish to trade. I had quite a few refs from a yugioh board I was once a member of. I'm off to find them, I'll see y'all around.

Azorius can get rid of blockers realy well. Which can set you up for an aggressive strategy. And Lavina can open up your opponents entire line of blockers for an all put assault. Plus, one of the colors is white which is a meek rush strategy. I can go on an on about how azorius can be aggro

Help with pictures, to have them work you need to make them G rated. Any thing above that will not show on imtg.

Most of the links are broken. You should fix them or remove the links as they have no purpose.

Hi all

I started playing Magic in the late 90's, but stopped for awhile. I started back up as late and have A TON of learning to do with all the expansions that have happened while I was gone. Looking forward to relearning the game with the help of this site

I've been playing magic for around 6 months now and have been using the forums for about 3, but just actually started posting about last week. Right now I have a standard mono black devotion many people dislike or even hate, and am building a dimir zombie token deck, so hello everyone!

I'm new to this, however I've been playing magic now for two years. As a kid back in 96 I played a little but never got to into until I met my husband. I also love to read the novels, some of the books have great authors. I'm just trying to learn more about the different sets, rules, game play and so on. What better way to educate yourself than by a community of fellow players!

Hello,
My name is Jonah, and I am new to the iMTG forum. I've been playing Magic since I was 13 years old, so about 4 years considering how I am 17 now.
Anyway, I have a magic the gathering rules question: Sadistic Sacrament and{ Djinn Iluminatus}. If you paid the kicker for {Sadistic Sacrament} then replicated it for ONLY the converted mana cost, would the replicated copy still be kicked, or not?

For future there is a rules section in the forum to pose these questions and if you click your post and choose modify you will see how I made those blue cards in your post link to the data base.

This is a great question and from what I read in the ruling I think the spell would be copied as the original spell and you would need to pay an additional kicker cost if you wanted the copied spell to be kicked.

Hi have just started playing and brought the intro battle for zendikar: zendikar's rage opened the boosters and found two cards that dont seem to be listed they are
elemental
Token creature - elemental
Trample, haste
009/014 T
3/1

Plant
Token creature -plant
010/014 T
1/1

The cards you mention are "token" cards. You can use them when an effect lets you put (usually creature) tokens into play, like {avenger of Zendikar} does with plant tokens.
These are not cards you can put in a deck to play.

On another note: welcome to MTG and the forum. I hope you'll like the game and your stay here :)

Hi again thanks I looked up these cards on the database but couldn't find them, couldn't find any information in the help section or rule book but haven't gone through the longer rule book yet though, as they said it isn't necessary to play the game. It is just here to clarify points.

It is true. You don't need to plow through the whole of the comprehensive rules, of CR as they are affectionately called. I think that's the best way to turn someone away from magic, as the exact mechanics detailed in the CR are mind boggling at times.
In most cases, it's pretty straight-forward what happens. And should you ever come across something you doubt about, we have the rules section to help out.
