Title: Flavor Cube
Post by: Prplprince on April 24, 2016, 04:29:30 AM
So I already have a cube that doesn't have overall flavor. Yes the colors have their individual favors but nothing for the whole cube. So I was thinking of building a second cube with a theme in mind. I came up with thee so far and could use some more ideas. Side note I'd like to make some flavor inspired cards up for the cube as well explained below.

1. Eldrazi vs Phyrexia: two of the bad ass evil armies fighting against each other for supermacy. Card example: a doom blade for eldrazi or tutor for infect/phyrexian mana

2. Heaven vs Hell: from the fictional to the real. There's a heavy weight bout waiting to happen.

3. Humans vs X: insert bad creature type here

Humans vs zombies vs goblins vs elves vs Merfolk

My uncube has many micro Themes within it of archetypes I enjoy

Yeah but that's more color flavors. In talking like an overall flavor for the entire cube. Like making the cube its own "set".

Seems like you would have limited colors then

A good way to do this is to build a block cube.  Just choose a set block that you like.  For example, I liked scars of mirrodin.  I got full sets of common/uncommons for the 3 sets on eBay for cheap.  Then acquired the rares/mythics I wanted or could afford.  Then balance it with cuts or additions. There will already be a level of balance in the block already so it should be too hard.  If you choose a recent block it won't be hard to get the cards you need.  I bought the full common sets soon after release.  I bought the rares after the sets rotated from standard.  It was very affordable and our group has gotten countless hours of play from it.

I like Phyrexia vs Eldrazi. You could also do Planeswalkers vs Eldrazi #bfz flavour.

Do you setup your cubes as Decks or Binders in the app?

I used the decks section in vintage for my first cube. This next one I haven't started yet

I like Phyrexia vs Eldrazi. You could also do Planeswalkers vs Eldrazi #bfz flavour.

My only issue right now is finding the overall flavor to fit all the colors. phyrexians vs eldrazi make colorless, artifacts and lands easy but not to many multicolors.

{Kearvek the mercilous} was a sleep agent
{Tsabo tavek} was a phyrexian general
{Mishra artificer prodigy} was compleated
Any of the praetors can rep the other colors

White's gonna be rough as the phyrexians and the eldrazi tend to not fall in that spectrum

{Phyrexian unlife} and {eldrazi displacer} being exceptions

Yeah white is a bit barren

So I've been thinking about the flavor cube. Would you play a cube built with custom cards? I've been trying to build a flavor cube and it's not working well. If I make custom cards built specifically just for the cube. So would you draft the cube if about half the cube are cards not made by wizards?

If they are playable (look similar and easy to understand any unique mechanic) and not broken (a one drop 2/2 with flying haste double strike death touch wither)

Haha well yes I wouldn't want a degenerate card like that 😂

Mythic Hunter
{1}{W}{W} - Cmc
Creature - Human
Mythic
3/4

First Strike
Protection from Mythic Rares
When Mythic Hunter enters the battlefield search target opponents hand, library and graveyard. Exile one target Mythic Rare card. If you search your opponents library shuffle it afterwards.

Here was one that I was brewing in my head lol

Edit: another one

Temporal Wurm
{3}{G}{G} - Cmc
Creature - Wurm
Mythic
6/4

You may cast Temporal Wurm as you search your library as long as you sacrifice a forest in addition to its other costs.
Flash
Trample
{1}{G}: Exile Temporal Wurm with two time counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep remove a time counter. When the last time counter is removed put Temporal Wurm on the bottom of your library. Activate this ability as long as Temporal Wurm is in your graveyard.
