Title: Martyrdom question.
Post by: Oldschoolmtgnoob on March 05, 2016, 12:16:58 AM
I noticed the oracle text for {martyrdom} is weird. The way it's worded sounds like it could be {stifle}d. Does the original wording accommodate this as well, just in a more convoluted way?

When this card was printed, damage used the stack. As such, redirection effects worked in an entirely different way. From that era, I believe only  {Brown Ouphe} could counter an activated ability. I'm not sure if that would include the "old" redirection effects though, if you would cast this on an artifact creature.

History lessons aside, current rules perfectly allow this ability to be countered.

Thank you, nevertheless. I guess it doesn't matter, since it's free to activate. You just....do it again. For some reason, I thought {stifle} said you can't activate the ability again. Is there even a card like that? From time spiral or something like that?

{trickbind}. Tis the card
