Can an opponent gain control of your Commander when he is on your battlefield? Or does he return to the command zone once he leaves YOUR battlefield?

There is no your battlefield and their battlefield.  It's all the same battlefield.  There is only THE battlefield.  Permanents changing control does not cause them to leave it.

To clarify further, the battlefield has no sides. There is one battlefield that both players use. Changing control of a creature does not equal that creature changing zones, because the battlefield is one zone for both players to share. It just seems like two zones because each player keeps their cards that they own/control on one side. But it is in fact one zone. Commander cards only get placed back to the command zone if that card would have changed zones. So, as the previous poster said, taking control of someone else's commander is fair game.
