no, you still have to pay 2 wastes, discounts are for colorless only

You are correct, but your terminology is wrong. Animar gives a discount on GENERIC mana. You still have to pay two COLORLESS mana (generated by {wastes}).

It is important to distinguish the difference, as generic mana costs can be paid with any color, while the new symbol <> can only be paid with colorless mana, produced either by wastes, or other permanents that can produce colorless mana.
