Title: Rebounding a Spell that you played the Awaken cost on
Post by: Noblellama on December 15, 2015, 07:35:07 PM
So if my {Narset Transcendant} rebounds {Planar Outburst} do I lay out fresh tokens or is the alternate casting method not copied?

Is this the same for overload?
Modal spells?

I remember asking a question about {cast through time} and {electrickery} a while back . It falls under the same reasons why if you were to cast a spell without paying it's mana cost, such as through {diluvian primordial} or something, you cannot cast it for an alternative cost.

I suppose rebound doesn't copy the spell, merely lets you cast it for free next turn.

I guess if it copied it for next turn that would work on an alternative cost...

Where are you Remillo/Kaylesh!
This is correct. Awaken/Overload/etc are alternate casting costs.
Casting for free (Rebound) is also an alternate casting cost.

You can only pay one alternate casting cost.

Griffin is spot on. Thanks for the shoutout, I could use a little pick-me-up.

As for modal spells, kicker costs and additional costs: none of the choices you make are "remembered", much the same as if your spell was {remand}ed or if you use {snap caster Mage}. You may pay additional costs again, must pay mandatory extra costs ({bone splinter} requires a new sacrifice for instance). You may also choose any modes, if applicable.
It's pretty much a new cast of the spell, except that you pay an alternate cost and cast it from exile. (For things that trigger on casting from your hand like rebound).

Resolved.

EDIT: realized I left some explanation out.
