Title: Proteus Staff
Post by: mickeven on November 13, 2015, 12:06:18 PM
Can {Proteus Staff} save my {Narset, Enlightened Master} from a  {Wrath of God} if shes the only creature in my deck? Scenario: The cast Wrath wtih Narset in play. I respond by Proteus Staffing her.

Side question: Would the Staff save Narset from something targeting her if she had lost Hexproof somehow?

No, it won't save Narset from a WoG. She will be on the field when WoG resolves.

Yes, it will save her from being targeted. When she re enters the field she's a different permanent.

The staff can only be used at sorcery speed, so you either use it before the wrath and it hits her when she pops back out, or you wait until after and well...that doesn't work

as for the targeting scenario, you cant stack a sorcery speed action on top of anything so once she is "targeted" (assuming the loss of hexproof {Glaring Spotlight}) then their effect will resolve before you can tuck her
However, say it is your turn and your opponent uses  {polymorpher's jest}, once it resolves and the stack is empty, you have priority to staff and get back Narset.
Due to the wording of {glaring spotlight} or {arcane lighthouse}, even if you staff her with these on the field, she still won't have hexproof however.
In the case of spotlight, I recommend {disenchant} in response to the targeted spell. It will not affect Narset and you 2-for-1.

oh man. completely missed that The staff was only at Sorcery speed. Does  {Vedalken Orrery} or  {Leyline of Anticipation} change this?
