Title: Looking to Get into Modern
Post by: Z5 on September 16, 2015, 12:20:18 AM
I am looking to get into semi-casual modern with a 50$ or less fun deck that uses red. I thought my Jank cards post would help with that, but not.

Mono red burn is the cheapest bang for your buck type deck.

I'm a huge advocate of mono green stompy as a budget deck. I'll post a list in this forum tonight when I'm not in school.

Another green style deck that's competitive is mono green aggro

X4 {Dryad Militant}
X4 {kalonian tusker}
X4 {leatherback baloth}
X4 {strangle root Geist}
X4 {experiment one}
X3 {Scavenging ooze}

X4 {aspect of hydra}
X4 {vines of vastwood}
X4 {rancor}
x3 {dismember}

21 {forest}
1 {Treetop Village}

This is the kind of deck I was referring to. I do like to have some number of {dungrove elders} to hedge your grindy matchups a little bit though.

I don't know why I couldn't remember the dungrove elders. Drop the oozes and dismembers down to 2 and the vines down to 3 and throw in 3 Dungrove Elders

Mono-{R} is always a good choice but it honestly needs {G} or {W} as a splash for sideboard enchantment hate. {Leyline of Sanctity} is such a blowout that you NEED a way to stop it. Even if you never see it, the games that you do, you'll be glad you have the removal. It's even better than {Stony Silence} against Affinity.

What would u suggest for mono red, also what budget lands should I use to splash

My bad. Well then zoo seems fine
If its budget then this would be best land base
Lands 20
X4 {terramorphic expanse}
X4 {evolving wilds}
X4 {forests}
X3 {mountain}
X2 {plains}
X2 {rootbound crag}
X1 {Kessig wolf run}
Creatures 28
X4 {burning tree emissary}
X4 {wild Nacatl}
X4 {Kird ape}
X4 {experiment one}
X4 {lightning mauler}
X4 {Ghor clan rampager}
X4 {Loam lion}
Spells 12
X4 {lightning bolt}
X4 {Atarka's command}
X2 {become immense}
X2 {rancor}

When you get the money switch up to {windswept heath}s and {wooded foothills} as well as {temple garden}s, {stomping ground}s, and {sacred foundry}s.

That's a LOT of tapped lands for so many one drops. I recommend the pain lands as budget alternatives

Only thing about pain lands is they don't buff your zoo creatures Wild Nacatl* Kird Ape* Loam Lion*

Also, Atarka's command can't bring you back from a slow start with the additional land play.

Good point. I'd honestly just play the tango lands. Tapped like wilds but tap for two colors, can potentially be untapped and buff your zoo guys

Good point. I'd honestly just play the lag lands. Tapped like wilds but tap for two colors, can potentially be untapped and buff your zoo guys

Fixed.
