Title: Windows 10
Post by: Indianslayer on August 30, 2015, 06:31:09 PM
So is windows 10, good or nah. I have a desktop with windows 7 pro and a laptop with windows 8.1, should I update? Are programs like eclipse, steam, and vlc compatable with it?

Everything is compatible, but it feels like a downgrade. I run on my Mac via boot camp and the buttons on the key board to control volume and brightness and such stopped working.

And you sign away all privacy by upgrading. They take screenshots and (can) sell them to the gov/businesses without letting you know when the screenshots are taken. It's in the agreement you hit that you've read and agree to during the upgrade process.
So you're saying if I get a second computer and just let it run gay porn all day, some NSA intern is gonna have a bad time?

Haha that is the best!
But on a serious note, other than some buttons not working and the nsa stuff, would it be a performance upgrade from at least windows 8? Because that's what I'm also looking for.

Do you think the buttons aren't working is because the coding for the buttons on the Mac don't match up with the commands for windows?

Not really an upgrade to anything major. True the iso is faster up it won't improve performance for stuff like games.

Plus the privacy stuff is massively invasive. They can do the aformentioned along with disactivate/delete programs that are copyrighted (no pirating/filesharing). Can montiner what you type.(for improving search results and the like they claim). Some other minor things. Some things can be disabled. There is also a thing that can do something like auto-block "dangerous" sites.
Some of this malware(some of it really is stuff like malware/spyware) can be disabled but will RE-ENABLE itself after a time. It even says it will.

Some of my info might be abit outdated or not remembered quite correctly so don't hold my words as law.

That said, i highly do not suggest this "upgrade"

My friend has it and he's having all kinds of comparability problems. His $70 Razor mouse won't set up.

So far I'm impressed with Windows 10. The upgrade from both Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8.1 was flawless. Upgrade from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8.1 was not possible in the past, but when upgrading to Windows 10 I was able to keep all the applications. The only thing which does not work is old Cisco VPN, but this should not affect most of you. Please note that my Windows is running on Mac in VMware. Please note that Taysby did not mention that it is Apple's responsibility to provide Boot Camp drivers for his installation and blaming Microsoft for sound buttons not working is wrong ;)
