so I've been an infect player since the mechanics been out, but haven't entered a dci sanctioned tourney in a long time. I want to try my other favorite deck, 8 rack. But I'm curious what you all think about how it'd fare in the current meta.
For those of you that haven't heard of the deck ( I'm sure you all have) it's basically a hand distruption deck that uses {the rack} , and {shrieking affliction} as win cons and {ensnaring bridge} to halt anything that may try and get through. And of course the amazing {Liliana of the veil}.
Thoughts? Possible new versions I've missed out on in the last few years?
The only 8 rack deck to have done well in recent memory is some 4 {wrench mind} deck from PT BNG.
The probably with 8 rack is that it is just worse than jund/abzan. Also the whole 'you can't Thoughtseize the top of their deck' philosophy.
Honestly the best 8-rack type of deck in modern right now is lantern lock with {Ghoulcaller's Bell} and {Lantern of Insight}
I've certainly been out for a while lol. Why does their top matter? Divine top? Scrying? Once it's in the hand it's fair game still right?
I used to run a very effective R/B 8/Rack with no ensnaring bridge or lili. The main issue with 8/Rack is Leyline of Sanctity, it just wrecks you completely

For leylines though your spells in hand go to feed {pack rat} and {mutavault} helps out too right? I've heard running {waste not} is good too.
For 8 rack to be effective you need to splash either green or white to be able to deal with leyline of sanctity. I personally prefer white because that also opens up access to path to exile.
I think the creatureless version is best. The aim is for you to have an ensnaring bridge down and try to empty both players hands asap. You will almost always win the top deck war because all of your spells work towards your game plan and excess lands can be recycled with {raven's crime}. Where you run into trouble is against decks like splinter twin that can combo off before you get your board set up but there are waya to combat that. If you want to have a look at my list pm me and ill send it to you.
I'm pretty sure RB exists with bolt terminate and K command
It does exist. I just prefer Bw, that's all.
Strange, never had a problem vs twin. Just ripped their plan apart before it began. Tron was always an issue though cause I had no way to stop the tron land's fast mana.
{Rain of Tears} Or {Fulminator Mage} are good B answers.

Didn't even know b had land removal, thanks!
B/R with blightning, waste not, liliana's caress, burning inquiry, dark deal. I did run a one of overgrown tomb with golgari charm in side for leyline.
This is the list I run at moment.
But at the moment 8 rack is not doing do will.

22 lands
4 {Thoughtseize} 4 {Shrieking Affliction} 4 {Inquisition of Kozilek} 3 {Raven's Crime} 4 {The Rack} 2 {Bitterblossom} 2 {Waste Not} 2 {Smallpox} 4 {Wrench Mind} 4 {Liliana of the Veil} 1 {Dark Deal} 4 {Ensnaring Bridge}
