Title: Someone please help answer.
Post by: Rgeeks30 on July 29, 2015, 12:01:45 AM
I have two cards with the same "ability" which I have a question on... "Ephara, God of the Polis", and "Kruphix, God of Horizons". The text says: "as long as your devotion to green and blue (or blue and white) is less than seven, then Kruphix (or Ephara) isn't a creature."  A couple of questions...:
1) if it isn't a creature, then what is it, just an enchantment? So therefore, it's able To be destroyed by anything That said "destroy target Enchantment" for example?
2) if, let's say it is NOT a creature at some point during your turn, and then becomes a creature again at a later point, does the creature have summoning sickness? Or is it able to attack as soon as it becomes a creature, as long as it's not the first turn that the card is in play?
3) if the creature has either an "enchant creature" attached, or any +1/+1 counters on it, When/if it then becomes an Enchantment again, does the +1/+1 counter or "enchant creature" get destroyed? Or does it stay attached add if it were still a creature and just doesn't effect it until it becomes a creature again? How would that work exactly?

Thank you for taking the time to read and answer this! It's much appreciated, fellow MTG'er

{Kruphix, God of Horizons}

Alright, time to explain some things!

1). When your devotion is not high enough, the ability causes the permanent to not be a creature anymore.  This does exactly what it means: it loses the card type "creature", loses all creature types it has and has no power or toughness.  It does, however, retain all the text in the text box, meaning it's still indestructible or has the secondary abilities inherent to each god.

2). Summoning Sickness only cares about how long the specific permanent has been under your control, not how long it's been a creature.  If I played Kruphix several turns ago but didn't meet the devotion requirement until this turn, he's not effected by summoning sickness since I already controlled the permanent.  If it tracked when it became a creature, man-lands and other permanents that can become creatures would never be able to attack!

3). This one is slightly interesting.  +1/+1 counters can exist on any permanent (just see {Llanowar Reborn}, a land that enters the battlefield with one), but they only have an effect while the permanent is a creature.  Any counters placed on your god remain there no matter if it's a creature or not!  Auras are a little different.  As soon as the object they're attached to stops being a legal attachment (an Aura with Enchant Creature being attached to a noncreature permanent, for example), they're put into the graveyard as a state-based action, more commonly called "falling off".  Any "enchant creature" auras attached to your gods will indeed fall off if they stop being a creature.
