Title: Spellskite/changeling/regent
Post by: Noblellama on July 08, 2015, 06:11:08 AM
confirmed by a level 2 judge

If 2 {spellskite}s are out on the same side as a {Thunderbreak Regent} an the have been made into changelings some how (basically as long as they are dragons through any method) then is someone targets a spell and you activate a kite, you can bounce that spell between kites until the opponent dies as long as you can keep paying the cost to activate the kite each time.

So as soon as a dragon "becomes" a target is literal? Never thought about that one..

crazy part is spell doesn't even have to resolve...

they doom blade thunderbreak regent
they take three from targeting it
you counter
you laugh
Craziest part is where even if you change the target the spell will still count as having targeted the dragon...

You fire a shot at someone. It is veered off course by Magneto, and the someone is gonna punish you for both trying to shoot him & shooting Magneto since they are buddies.
Then, if Magneto and his son decide to play ping pong with your bullet, the guy who you were aiming at will kill you for it...

Now will this work with a spell that can't actually be changed to skite? Like cracking a fetch? Or will regent's ability only work if the spell is successfully redirected? But as you said, it doesn't even require resolution. Is that where legality is checked?

At what point does the skite actually become the target?
I'd say it'd trigger only if it could actually swap the target.

so they target something, spell on stack, you activate spellskite 1, stack is now skite1 onto of spell
let skite resolve, target changes, respond to stack with skite 2 activation, stack is now skite 2 on top of spell, let skite resolve changing targeting

rinse repeat until thunderbreak regent kills opponent...
That's it I think. So it's not gonna trigger off a fetch or counter. It could trigger on anything capable of hitting a creature though.

Also of note from Judge, the Spellskite may only steal a targeting once from a strive spell no matter how many targets it has, however on a spell like {kolaghans command} if they choose option 3 and 4 (destroy TARGET artifact and deal 2 damage to TARGET creature or player) then the spellskit may steal both targetings...

What if they chose 'player' for the damage. You can't change that part, right? So would one part of the command would still resolve as normal, even if you try to steal it?

Since the command's final mode says it can target either creature or player, it is a legal switch. Note that you can change this, but you cannot change the modes of the spell.
