Periodically my friends and I hold custom tournaments.
The first was Shard Wars, entry must be a deck dedicated to a shard
The second was Guild Melee, Ravnica Guilds
Then Clan Squabble, Khans clans
The Brood Fight, dragons of tarkir colors
Looking for some new ideas (limitation: restricting theme cannot be tribal based as it must be general enough that a person can make it from existing card collection.)

Cards in your deck can only use one non-evergreen keyword (example: if you run a theme of B/W Exalted, you can have flyers and first strikers, but extort/cipher/etc are off limits
Edit: that might be too limiting, but I think you could always use filler of cards like {Vampire Nighthawk} and removal spells.
Creatureless. No creatures. Major tilt towards blue/red decks but people could get fancy with combos.
Creatures only (except land). Self explanatory.
Vanilla Wars. Only ability-less creatures. You could go a step farther and say {Cancel} not {Dissolve} ect.
Mono Madness. Everyone builds a mono coloured deck of a specific colour and tries to prove they are the best.
Colourblind. Lands tap for any colour of mana.
Artificers. No coloured spells.
There can only be one. One drops only.
A day at the mill. Everyone plays mill.
Why do we play this game again? Starting life 100, reshuffle graveyard into library instead of dying, no game winning combos.
Overload. Everything must have a CMC of 4+ (or 5+)
Land Ho! Lands only. (Might be hard to pull off.)
Limitless. You may play any number of any amount of cards in your deck.
Planeswalkers. Each player creates a Planeswalker and uses the commander rules with it. (Don't forget to balance them)
Slice of Magic. Singleton twenty card deck with starting life total 10.
Butt doubled! Everything is doubled, starting life, power/toughness, damage, mana costs, library size, max card allowance (8 not 4) ect. You may want to not double some things but hey.
Only lands:
Everyone proxy {thespian stage}, {wasteland}s, and {Dark Depths}, run every manland four off.
I should have clarified, everybody plays the same coloured deck for mono madness.
A lot of them are kinda "rigged" but sometimes they're surprising. It's more about if people build to win or to have fun.
Limitless just removes the "only four of each card" basically you add {Relentless Rats} rule text to each card.

I'm an advocate for banning {Thespian Stage} but not {Dark Depths} so if someone wants to play it legitly they can. Also four of every man land might put you in a difficult situation as far as activating them goes. Also {Inkmoth Nexus} is probably banned.

Ah, I understand now
we did all of the guild, clan, brood and shard battles like that, where each person builds (izzet, or azbhan or dromoka or grixis) and each of the izzets dual and then ......
if we do limitless I want that burn spell with ripple...
45x {surging flame}
15x mountain
Mull until you have two lands in hand. GG

No no no, that's when you break out the sables and the {thrumming stone}.

Forgot I had a thrumming stone
But how do I guarantee I'll draw my ONE T stone in my deck of nearly 2,500 cards?
*cough* cheat *cough*
There's always tutors.
I say build highlander decks. Those are pretty fun. It's like EDH without generals
Sadly in highlander, you may only use one sable.

Team Unified Constructed sounds like fun.
