Post by: Avodroc13 on July 06, 2015, 05:54:41 PM
Can I use fetch lands to grab shock lands? {Wooded Foothills} and {Stomping Ground}.

Yup.
Except for  {Terramorphic Expanse} or  {Evolving Wilds}

If the card just says Forest, you can grab green Shocks because they're Forests.
If it says basic Forests, you can't.

To better elaborate, fetchlands can grab any type of land that has the subtype referred to by the fetchland. For instance, {Windswept Heath} can grab any land that has the subtype Forest, or Plains, and it does not have to meet both criteria. All shocklands (I.E. {Blood Crypt}, {Watery Grave} etc.) have 2 land subtypes. If you look at what is labeled after the word Land in the card type bar, there will be 2 instances of subtypes. In the case of {Steam Vents}, the two land subtypes are Island and Mountain. Fetchlands can also grab original duals such as {Taiga} and {Scrubland}, because although older lands do not show their subtypes after the supertype Land, they are still considered to be both ({Savannah} is a Forest and a Plains). You can also grab special lands like {Mistveil Plains} and {Sapseep Forest} with fetches. The key is to look at what the criteria the fetch is asking for, and to read the subtypes of the lands themselves.

Yes. A lot of decks that rely on a single dude to get big will keep an uncracked fetch to defend against an edict effect.

Can you imagine gemming into 3 original duals?
I could imagine me being at 6 and in a lose-next-turn position with a gem, cracking it for three shock lands and killing myself. Mana burn suicide new style!

EDIT: just realized you pay the life, so you can't die at 5..
