Title: Lightning bolt VS battalion
Post by: Chipper89 on June 21, 2015, 01:04:48 AM
my opponent ATKS with 3 creatures including {Frontline medic}.
If I use {Lightning bolt} on one of the creatures..
Does one die cause 3 arent attacking for battalion?
Or does the Indestructability go off first from {Frontline medic}?

Battalion triggers whenever attacks are declared.
If you {Lightning bolt} in response, however, I believe it would go on the stack first and kill the creature. However, the other creatures would still be indestructible. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

You can't cast things in response to attackers or blockers being declared. But you can in response to entering those phases. You just won't know who they're going to choose for what. Better just kill that pesky medic anyways if you can!

This is not a correct statement. After attackers are declared (and blockers), both players receive priority and can respond how they like. The first action taken in the declare attackers step is declaring attackers. It's not players getting priority. Please make sure you consult the comprehensive rule book before posting and cite rulings if possible.
508.1. First, the active player declares attackers. This turn-based action doesn't use the stack.

😓 very sorry. I was thinking more of things like you can't tap an opponents creature in response to them declaring it an attacker to make it so it can't attack. Or the other way for blockers. But I understand since battalion is an ability that goes on the stack, something can be done before its resolution.
Or am I wrong there too....
No more answering for me.

You are correct here. AP declares three creatures as attackers. AP receives priority and puts batallion trigger on the stack. NAP receives priority and can respond to batallion trigger. Stack resolves.
