Ppl on the Proce Threads are complaining about Modern Masters driving up prices and that being a significant barrier to entry to them I say:
Of course it'll be pricey it's an eternal format! BUT there are ways around it. I started Modern playing jank Tokens/Polymorph Tokens
The most expensive card in the deck? {Godless Shrine} then when I went to Esper Polymorph the decks price rose BUT only bc I was comfortable spending that much.
With {Thoughtseize} in standard and at a low price, tokens is still a very legit Tier 2-3 strategy that's competitive, fun, and an easy deck that lets you learn about the format.
After a year of me playing tokens and learning modern I decided I wanted to play a different deck so I did my research looked at the meta, and what decks were popular and I decided to build RG Valakut (a deck that destroyed the Treasure Cruise Meta) still reaping the benefits of my winnings from that deck I built RG Tron for a new adventure!!
Tl:Dr there's a ton of cheap Modern decks that are easy to build, play and learn while you decide what to actually play in Modern!
Hope this helped!! :D
Also get tz now
Trade for em now!
Right {{spencer Addington}}?
That's right ;) Got two play sets now, so I'll never have to buy them again.
I started with a janky as .love. mill deck I brewed. Then got some shocks and made it a bit more viable. I've still got the deck and now it's fully built for modern and I've won matches against top tier decks with it.
It's great to see modern really taking off. I've got my set of {Tarmogoyf} now and looking forward to the season!
I started about 2 years ago with Merfolk... Back when all the staples were cheap
I started with affinity, besides the mox opals and lands the deck wasn't horrible priced lol
But good decks that aren't ridiculous priced are
Goblin burn
Bogles
8 rack w/o lilys
Merfolk sorta
Grixis control w/o snappys

Mana base adds up fast in the multi color decks.
I started with mono white martyr-proc. Then switched to Kiki pod. We all know how that went. Now I play legacy and edh.
Tl;dr be careful liking things that are top tier.
Honestly, the best (and cheapest) way to get into Modern is to build a time machine.

Still looking for someone to finance a DeLorean and some U-238.
Think I'll go back to the 90s and pick up some Alpha boxes...
