Title: Lost post
Post by: Avodroc13 on June 09, 2015, 04:14:17 AM
I have a trade going on with someone through iMTG,  they are a trusted trader so I didn't mind sending first.
They had recieved 3-4 trades from me before sending out and sent out everything we agreed upon all in one. It was $50+ in trade value, and they had gotten a tracking number on it. This isn't a trial or anything, I have a question.

I have been keeping tabs on it and it's expected delivery date was on June 2nd. It wasn't in my box so I gave it a few days because the mail is slow occasionally. Now, it is said that it has been lost in transit. Could someone please tell me how the post can lose something with a tracking number on it? I don't understand how that is even possible. I called the post office from where it was sent from and they claim that it should've arrived already and they are looking for it but cannot track it down. So is it a lost cause? What is my next course of action?

No names will be given on this trade because the person I'm trading with shouldn't recieve a bad rep as it isn't their fault. I'm just curious.

Call the post office it's at by zip code

I've had a certified letter sit around for 3 weeks before arriving to the receiver.

If it's got a tracking number and they can't locate the package they should pay for damages, since it's insured when sending by tracking.
Not sure what proper procedures are for usps though, but a sorry can't find it is NOT good enough. If that remains the answer, take action at the federal level I assume.

Do you have a locked mailbox? If not someone could have stole it after it was delivered. Felling your mail and hard plastic inside. They could think it's a credit or gift card.

Also I had tracking say it was delivered. Then go back to out for delivery. Then delivered again to pick up at post office. Wasn't at the post office. The mailman had it but didn't want to leave the large package in the front hallway of the apartment. He would always leave stuff behind the second locked door when he could get in. So maybe talk to your delivery person.

If you got basic usps package tracking they insure up to $100.

How do you prove how much the contents are worth?

Websites could show value easily

It's my word against theirs. I could say the contents contained thousands of dollars and they could argue that it was just a dollar. If it's lost, how do I prove what was in the envelope?

Most cases, you sign off on the value of the contents and you sign that is the true value/contents. If it's not, that's insurance fraud. Don't know if/how they would ask you to prove, but it's one of the reasons why tracking is so much more expensive. Safer & insurance.

I've never had to sign off on how much the contents are. Then again, I've never had this happen.

Well if you have records of statements of the contents, it shouldn't be an issue

But like I said: call the post office in the zip code it was supposed to show up to

It was supposed to come to me. They said they don't have record of it making it here. They said it's still in transit.

If it was sent usps first class they have insurance built in. I always send high value stuff through first class.

I've had that happen with a trade from canada, envelope was torn up and soaked, but the guy was smart enough to smack some tape on the opening of the toploader and the foil {eiganjo's castle} was safe and sound 😁

I had a similar situation through eBay but the seller never gave me the tracking that he claimed said it was delivered. A year later we found it in my moms car.

Sold my mans crypt on eBay to someone in Canada. Bought the flat rate envelope that came with tracking and requested insurance. Canada's post system took it to a completely different city and gave it to someone else. I talked to the post office, they said Canada post needs to take care of it. Canada post says usps needs to take care of it. On top of all of that, both parties said insurance was not purchased even though I told usps I needed it and they said they'd get it for me. >:(

what kind of crypt did your man have?

Yeah

What has happened with this lost post?

I called the USPS central hub in Dallas and filed a complaint. They said if they find the package, they'll continue it on its route. If they don't manage to find it, I have to have the sender file an insurance claim thingy. I opened an investigation on my end. They said that if it was a normal letter (without tracking) there's nothing they could've done, but since I have a tracking number, they have to find it otherwise its a lawsuit.

They told me it doesn't matter what's in the envelope, when a date is put on a tracked package to arrive on a certain date, it's mandatory that they get it to the recipient. (ie: if it was a plane ticket and I had missed the flight, or a check to pay something off, etc.) I am expecting a call from an investigator Monday with an update on what's going on.

On top of that, my phone won't load the USPS tracking website, so I can't track it right now. All I can do is wait for that call back.

I'm confused. I thought the usps was cause for the delay? Or did sender compensate afterwards?

There was already an extra in the package. A foil {Liliana of the Veil}.
