Title: Best black/red creatures?
Post by: Spencer Addington on May 30, 2015, 03:32:03 AM
I'm making a sort of rakdos control deck that aims at locking my opponent out of the game with things like 4 thoughtsieze/inquisition of kozilek, lots of creature removal, and 4 Mainboard {blood moon}. I just need finisher creatures. I have {Olivia voldaren}, {bloodghast} and {gatekeeper of Malakir} for those pesky infect decks(firly precisely in my meta).

Rakdos doesn't really have any good control creatures as they don't protect themselves and you don't have blue to back yourself up. That being said there's,

{Griselbrand}

{Sheoldred, Whispering One}

That's all I can think of.

So that's why jund exists...

I don't agree with this. Especially for control.

Lol funny story, at a modern event a few months back I beat an Abzan control list with my wilted Abzan simply because he was at 4 life with a bob out and flipped a Tasigur :)

Controll is the whole reason to play bob.... Your spells are cheap and it gives you extra draw power that you need to keep up in controll

It has happened to me and makes me sad when it happens but it is a risk worth taking

But you don't get to use tasigurs ability. Seems like such a waste.

It is which is why angler is a better pick in this situation

At the expense of your life, which control cannot afford. It has a hard enough time in modern as it is. I have never seen a control list (I've only see Jeskai, Esper and Grixis for modern) with bob in it. It dies to your wraths and opponents spells and hurts you. {Sphinx's Revelation} is king. (Or close to it). If I wanted something on those lines I'd run {Phyrexian Arena}. I could totally see it in Tempo and it has a deserved home in many decks (Jund, Mono {B} Devotion) but I think it is over rated and over priced. I know it's a powerful card, I respect it. But it is not a if black run this card.

I honestly see your point. I guess we will agree to disagree

I usually don't like rakdos decks but I made a troll deck focused on discarding your own cards and putting them into play with madness/unearth, I was running fiery temper and Liliana of the veil in it (Somethimes Tibalt the fiend blooded), you should try a deck like that, it combines control discard and aggro, I don't guarantee it being effective :)
