Title: So there was a bargain...
Post by: theravenseye on May 13, 2015, 06:27:13 PM
There were there college students selling some old MTG stuff the other day at our fair. There was one starter of beta. No crap. This guy hadn't opened it yet. I asked him how much. He, seeing that it was partially damaged said: $40. I said deal. Me and my friends open it in fromnt of them. I see a card with a brown frane at the back. It's an artifact. I check the rest, mostly lands and I got a {Dark Ritual}. I check the back and thre was a {Mox Saphire} at the very back of the pack. I can die happy now.

Honestly, you should have kept it sealed. You can get a lot more on average if you sell it sealed than if you open it. Think of it this way: sell it sealed for a guaranteed $2-4000 ( http://www.trollandtoad.com/p80116.html ) or you could open it and get anything from $0-10000. Honestly, even by opening it (assuming the starter and Sapphire are both mint) you only broke even ( http://sales.starcitygames.com/carddisplay.php?product=16973 )

Define "broke even". I see it as he's up thousands of dollars.

Yep

This isn't the first time I've heard an old wives tale from this person.

I would like a pic of the seller when he came home and started googling because he was curious why you were soo happy.

Okay, the value when he opened it is equal to the value now, that's what I mean by "broke even." If he would have opened it and pulled crap, he could have lost money.

But would he have gotten that much money guaranteed? He said the package was damaged. That might put a dent in the final price for the sealed product.

YOU DON'T OPEN THAT INFRONT OF THEM! You could have started a legal mess trying to get that THREE THOUSAND DOLLAR CARD YOU LUCKY SUN OF A DISTANT PLANET.

How could they take any legal action by you opening it front of them? They chose to sell it. What you do with it after that is your business. I mean you certainly can sue someone for anything in this country but that doesn't mean they actually have a case.

Truth be told I don't know much about the legal system in the USA, but I can imagine a legal/media war emerging. The seller should not have a case since he sold the product, but then being right and getting your due still seem to be two different things.

By all logic, yes. It's yours, they sold it, you opened it, that's that. However in a country where you can try to rob somebody, fall through their skylight then sue them because you landed on their knife...I wouldn't take chances. There could be a suit because you knew about the value/possible value and still took it for cheap. I'm not sure what the charge is called but I seem to think it's a thing. Anybody in their right mind would rule it correctly, but people like that are increasingly hard to find.

Wonder if there's any relation to sparkle?
Title: Re: So there was a bargain...
Post by: LinkCelestrial on May 20, 2015, 11:16:32 PM
theravenseye. Well when most people see ravens, with their /eyes/,  they think they're crows. What do crows love? Shiny things. What do shiny things do? They sparkle. Hold that thought. What color are ravens? Black. What else is black? Darkness. You can't see in darkness. Unless you're a ninja. Return that thought and,

SparkleNinja.

BUT WAIT! This is a mtg thread, and there's an mtg card about ravens. {Raven's Crime}. What is the {Raven's Crime}? Stealing thoughts. What are thoughts in mtg? Cards.

It's conclusive from this that theravenseye is SparkleNinja and they didn't buy the cards. Oh no. They stole them. What happens when you steal something? You break the law. Law has three letters. Triangles have three sides. Illuminati confirmed.

Triforce. Is a symbol. Of three things. These three things are triangles. Triangles have three sides. Illuminati TRICONFIRMED.
