Title: woah wait a sec
Post by: Noblellama on April 29, 2015, 05:06:02 PM
Mark Rosewater says is Drive to Work #208 (Red-Green) at 9:52 that when creatures fight, some abilities don't matter, like DEATHTOUCH and first strike.

Is this a MARO oops, or does deathtouch not apply in fights all the sudden????

702.2b (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=702.2b): Any nonzero amount of combat damage assigned to a creature by a source with deathtouch is considered to be lethal damage, regardless of that creature's toughness. See rules 510.1c–d.

Combat damage. I think we all have been playing it wrong

702.2c A creature with toughness greater than 0 that's been dealt damage by a source with deathtouch since the last time state-based actions were checked is destroyed as a state-based action. See rule 704.

That's the relevant line.  702.2b more applies to figuring out trample damage.  No worries, Maro is just mistaken.

Did this rule ever change? Maybe it's an old episode...
