Title: Lets make a strong TL deck
Post by: MuggyWuggy on March 17, 2015, 02:04:06 AM
Hey guys, I have quite a few sygg river guide foils that I want to move, so I figure, lets get our inner spike/Timmy/Johnny to construct an extremely hard to beat deck for tiny leaders.

If we can get a decklist hyped up enough and I am able to sell all of my guides at a decent rate, everyone who participates by adding at least 3 cards to the list will be rewarded after I've sold all my copies (due to amazing profit)

So {Sygg, Rivee Guide} : basically Merfolk with white protection/buffs, we want to control the opponents board. Since white is in the color mix, a sideboard with the circles of protection is in mind. I just love having cop red out vs a zozu deck.

Obviously plains/islands/dual lands will not count towards the card count. Utility lands will count.

True name nemesis
Swords
Protection spells
Broken Merfolk
What else???

{arm with AEther} get le island walk, throw this out, and they are suddenly back to square one if you have enough creatures. Puts them on a clock if you hit with enough.

{Kira, the Great glass spinner}
Who doesn't love countering everything? Protection from spells, and unless is sygg, who you can just use protection on himself, they won't really bother/can't do anything.

{Lullmage mentor} tokens, and counter more stuff! Throw in a {Merrow Commerce}, and your golden!

What about some good equipment? Like the sword of _ and _ cycle? (Of course body and mind is banned, but the other four} and if we add them, then how about {stoneforge mystic}?also, we will need some sweet card draw. Maybe like {brainstorm}, {ponder}, {preordain}, and {sphinx's revelation} (has a CMC of three, doesn't it?)

{silence}. Value
{Master of the Pearl Trident}. All your dudes get gains (gym joke :P)
{Isochron Scepter}. Paired with almost any instant in TL is amazing, especially {silence}

{hinder}/{spell crumple}
{mana leak} because it's even more often a hard counter now
{cyclonic rift}
{detention sphere}
{moorland haunt}

Is Jitte banned?

What is this mythical "White" color you speak of?  ;)

{swords to plowshares}
{path to exile}
{aether vial} (depending on how many creatures)
{force of will}  We will have a lot of blue
{chrome mox}
{mox diamond}
{spellcatcher}
{lord of atlantis}
Can't play FOW

GAH!  That's why I hate tiny leaders!   You can't play good stuff!  ;)

You don't have to worry about cards like {perilous vault} either ;)

{Jace Beleren} for that card draw. {Vapor Snag} to deal with pesky things. {Timely Reinforcements} is just a great card overall, and {Arcane Denial} is one of my personal favorite counterspells, on that note, {Swan Song} is also good.

{Condemn} cause tuck you that's why!

{Oblivion Ring}/{Banishing Light} classic white removal.

{Liquify} basically an easy to cast catch all with upside. Unce.

{Muddle the Mixture} I feel like the transmute is worth it.

{Deprive} because utility lands that I'll add.

{Familiar's Ruse} I haven't really seen any awesome enters the battlefield yet but I'm waiting.

{Cancel}/{Dissolve}/{Dissipate}/{Dream Fracture}: some catch alls.

{Negate}/{Nullify}/{Essence Scatter}/{Physic Barrier}: some situational counters.

{Chalice of the Void}: I feel like there's a way to make this work. Just throwing it out there.

{Azorius Charm} utility.

{Thassa, God of the Sea} I think you can hit 5 quickly. Scry and unblockable are good.

{Spreading Seas} cause you're gonna have island walk.

{Military Intelligence} seems good maybe.

{Azorius Cluestone} ramp

{Azorius Keyrune} ramp

{Azorius Signet} ramp

{Halimar Depths} it's better than it sounds. {Deprive} synergies.

{Tranquil Cove} Fixing, life, {Deprive} synergies.

{Radiant Fountain} life. {Deprive} synergies.

{Temple of Enlightenment} scry. {Deprive} synergies.

{Azorius Chancery} synergies with other recommended lands.

Slow ramp and lands are slow.  Extremely competitive decks don't want to waste a turn 1 because it enters tapped and they scry.

I don't play TL so if these are bad ideas then I'll take your word for it. I just assumed you wouldn't need and use a land drop every turn especially capping out at 3CMC.

Regardless of the deck, a land that enters tapped will slow you down by a turn, which is not good, regardless of the format.  You have plenty of fixing in {tundra} {hallowed fountain} all on color fetches, {adarkar wastes} white blue fast land, {glacial fortress} the blue white filter, and more i'm probably forgetting.

^^^^^^^^
Agree

The new {Smother} meets {Oblivion Ring} from DTK. Looks awesome for TL.

Lets not forget the Merfolk tribal theme. If we make a pure azorious deck, they have the opportunity to choose any other commander in those colors

I'm liking the Merfolk w islandwalk, protected with equipment and white for protection perks

TL only needs about 14-16 land, one drops and two drops are much preferred over 3 drops. Mana leak and force spike are a must for sure, same with cyc rift

Ummm...

{Silumgar Sorcerer}
{Voidmage Shusher}

I know, I know, their three drops.

Has {path to exile} and {sword to plowshares} been said? {Oblation}?

{Sensei's Diving Top}? (Yes I know that's not how it's spelled)

Or is it banned?

Is there an actual ban list anywhere? I thought this was a new format.

Basically, dumb OP spells are banned. That includes counterbalance, jitte, and {Sword of Body and Mind}. Top is fine.

And it's not a new format. It's been around for 2-3 years. It's only just recently gained popularity because of articles that wizards/SCG did...

There ta go. That's all of the w/u merfolk 3cmc or less that's worth playing. Looks like mill would be a nice sub theme. Especially with 50 card decks.

Definitely a mill alt win con in for this. Equipment and TNN also seems very good.

I like these suggestions guys. Lets make this list and start testing! I wanna sell these suckers and reward participation!
