Title: BUG control
Post by: Kaalia with haste on March 16, 2015, 09:26:20 AM
4x {abrupt decay}
4x {serum visions}
4x {mana leak}
4x {Thoughtseize}
4x {inquisition of kozilek}
3x {maelstrom pulse}
2x {ashiok, nightmare weaver}
2x {cryptic command}
1x {jace, architect of thought}
3x {damnation}
31 other spells

4x {snapcaster Mage}
1x {tasigur, the golden fang}
5 creatures

4x {nephalia drownyard}
4x {polluted delta}
4x {verdant catacombs}
3x {misty rainforest}
4x {breeding pool}
3x {watery grave}
2x {twilight mire}
24 lands

I had some free time in my study hall and threw this together. I want drownyard to be the main win con. Tasi is here as a CA engine and as a good blocker. I kind of want to try clique in here.. Also I may be running too many fetches. I'll probably want the land in my deck more often than not. Some of them may get replaced by some filter lands.

I'm really no expert with modern but I think all the fetches, T-seizes, and shocks will damage you too much. {Urborg tomb of yawgmoth} is good with fetches (you can still get mana for them) and I might run a couple of basics, too. 4 drownyards seems like a lot, since you need 4 lands to use it and it only taps for gray.

I would do:
-1 drownyard
-1 verdant catacombs
-1 Polluted Delta
+1 Urborg
+1 Island
+1 Forest

Also, out of curiosity, how playable do you think Ashiok will be modern?

Oh, and -2 {Twilight mire} and +1 {Sunken ruins}, +1 {Flooded grove} so you can get {U} for the commands

Lol {Blood Moon}

On another note:

DROWNYARD IS BAD WILL. GET OVER IT. PLAY THRAGTUSK AND GOYF. GERRARD FABIANO IS BETTER AT BUILDING MODERN DECKS THAN YOU.

I honestly kinda like this. {Damnation}, {Nephalia Drownyard}, and {Cryptic Command} are three of my favorite cards. I feel like 4/4 on {Thoughtseize}/{Inquisition of Kozilek} is a bit overboard. I think I'd drop to 3/3. Maybe add in 2 {Murderous Cut}?  With as prevalent as {Blood Moon} is, I'd throw basics in there. One {Blood Moon} and it's GG for you.

Just for shits and giggles, might as well jam my other favorite card in there and get a {Tamiyo, the Moon Sage} in here 😜

Milling 3 cards translates the same as dealing 1 damage.  Do you see people designing decks around {shivan gorge} as a win con?

Math behind logic is below.
3÷60=.05
.05×20= 1

Well that would be true if your opponent never drew cards. They draw 1 per turn plus their opening (probably 6-7 but maybe lower). Not saying it's good just saying it's not as bad as gorge

I think pretty playable. She steals some pretty sick stuff, rhino, goyf, tasi if you can get the loyalty up all the way. Sadly I might cut her or SB her because she's REALLY bad against twin and affinity.

you are technically correct.  And it is worse than gorge because you have creatures to help with damage yet they do not help with mill.  2 strategies = bad :P

Just look at Gerads list. It's pretty darn good.

I'll just run thought scour over serum visions and target them ;)

The point of this deck isn't to be amazing. It's to win with drownyard and play spells that cost UUU and BB in the same deck

SB sounds good. I was mostly asking about him because I have two and I am wondering if his price will do the same thing another certain 3 cmc walker did when it rotated out of standard

Also, in modern people generally pay at least 3 life a game, which translates to 9 cards milled.

Mind Sync {2}{U}

Whenever a player casts a spell each other player may cast a spell from their hand that shares a name with that spell.
