Title: Dig through time
Post by: DirtyMustachio on March 07, 2015, 08:41:41 PM
{dig through time}

How should I view this card?
Is it going to stay banned in modern or did they just drop the hammer because to much at once came out from khans?

Should I grab a bunch now? I don't really want to speculate this card. But I feel that in standard it's about to get really good, but I mean if it gets unbanned in modern it would skyrocket right?

Do not grab a bunch!  I think there is a decent chance of unban in the future but that will most likely come some time after it rotates from standard.  With that said.....it rotates and is still banned in modern.....this becomes $1 rare.

If I draft em, I keep em.

I try to not draft or open product that much anymore, buyouts at rotation are a good idea, but then things like voice don't ever dip as low as we want😵

If it's unbanned, I don't think it will happen in less than 2 years, they are reluctant to admit mistakes, just look at {Golgari Grave-Troll}. That said, if it dips down at rotation, I'm going to snatch them up because this is my favorite card and I think it will be unbanned eventually.

Why not? The only reason they gave for banning it was, "it might be {Treasure Cruise} 2.0," and honestly the scary decks that were running Treasure Cruise, Delver and Burn, would have a harder time cast this and it wouldn't be as good.

But it made combo decks way too powerful.

Also it isn't banned in Legacy so it will never quite be a dollar. After it rotates it'll dip but then go right back up after about a year

Drawing three cards for {U} makes decks like Delver that are focused on card advantage happy. But digging through seven for {U}{U} at instant speed? That makes every combo deck that can fuel it more consistent. I can't say I agree with the bans but that's probably because I didn't play too much Delver and when I did I was rocking Affinity and T1 {Thoughtcast}ing. (I also didn't attend proper tournaments). During that timeframe I was getting obliterated by {Jeskai Ascendancy} combo and wondering why none of its pieces ate a ban.

Either way I don't expect it to pick up. And if it does and it skyrockets and I traded mine at $6 then damn. But if it rotates and I hang onto it and it's never unbanned then that'll suck too. And I think the second option is more likely.

With Twin being so popular in modern atm I don't think that this card is good for the format when you can run a ton of draw cards then delve into Dig to find twins, exarcs or perstermites to guarantee your combo.
