Title: Cycle ftw!
Post by: Kaylesh on March 07, 2015, 03:01:22 AM
Opponent has a {phaige, the untouchable} out. Play {astral slide}, cycle a card, win!

Give them a Phage, {Donate} a {Ring of Ma'rûf}, {Mindslaver} them to activate the ring. You cast {Show and Tell} from your hand (with {Leyline of Anticipation} giving it flash). You make them play Phage and lose.

Unfortunately, this combo doesn't come with a map, but I think I covered everything.

So they have to have phage in hand? Did you put it there? Or they are just running it naturally and saw it off {gitaxian probe}.

You fetch the phage with the ring. Casual only. You cast show and tell during the controlled turn from your own hand. Would it not be easier to cast phage, donate and then use the cycle-flicker I described??
EDIT: doh! Owners control.

I still don't understand how mind slavering your opponent can cause them to show and tell in phage if you ringed to get phage in your own hand.

You donate the ring. You mindslaver them and activate the ring. Since you're controlling them, you get Phage for them. The. You Show and Tell and play Phage for them.

You donate the ring, then mindslave them to use it to fetch Phage in their hand. Then show and tell as instant from your hand. They put down Phage, lose as it wasn't cast.

As said, does require a Phage owned by opponent in casual, or a Phage in his SB for tourney.

Does casual let you play cards from your opponents sideboard? Otherwise he would need phage in his board.

Casual: any card in your collection. Be a dork and gift him one for hosting the night :p

What happens if you manifest Phage? Does flipping her trigger her lose con?

Nope. Unless you flipped her via blinking.

So on that reasoning, it wouldn't matter how Phage was morph/manifested. That would completely negate her lose con. That could be exploitable

Put Phage down as a manifest. {Donate} or {Daring Theif} then blink. SUPRISE YOU'RE DEAD! Add {Liliana Vess} and {Vampiric Tutor} to put her where you want her. {Write Into Being} and {Cloudform} seem like optimal enablers. Just gotta make sure your blinker doesn't return it under your control. That'd suck.

There isn't one that doesn't return it to its owners control. You'd have to use an Ante card to give it to your opponent permanently

I'm more thinking using something like {mastery of the unseen} to get her down as manifest, then attack with her, and flip her when she isn't blocked

But then just cast her and add {Whispersilk Cloak} or something.

Okay, so. Manifest/whatever {Phage the Unplayable}. Exile with {Cold Storage} then {Donate}/{Bazzar Trader} the {Cold Storage} and use {Worst Fears}/{Sorin Markov}/{Mind Slaver} to make them crack it!

But then just cast her and add {Whispersilk Cloak} or something.

If she's cast as normal, she is an immediate threat, and the opponent is working to end it. Whispy cloak is an obstacle, but it's easily dealt with. If I attack with multiple morphs, my opponent is blindly blocking unknown threats. I could also have multiple out in manimorph, and flip the unblocked one.

Touche. Very good point. Problem is it's still {3}{B}{b}{b}{b} to flip. There's some sort of oldschool card that lets you put things face down until they take or deal damage and stuff.

So with the mask, you have to eventually pay the full amount of the actual cost to play the creature. And if I read the ruling correctly, you can continue to pay on it, but once a flip condition has been met, if you haven't paid the full amount, it's considered an illegal casting

What is with players and their unnatural desire to exploit Phage? It seems everybody wants to do a hanky 8 card combination to win... I mean, it's a cool idea I guess and I'm not knocking it but like what is it that attracts players to a wildly unplayable 7 drop that needs a billion things to function?hahaha

I try to come up with combos for any and every card. It's nice to have options. And even if I never use this combo, knowing the mechanics of it make me a better player, and open my mind to more ways to exploit other cards. I don't have a great thing for Phage. I have a thing for thinking up ways to win that other people wouldn't think of.

Don't need to play it...  Discard it, {Donate} them a {Liliana Vess} and {Mindslaver} them for the win...

I think the {Cold Storge} combo is a bit easier then ulting a Planeswalker. Generally.
