Where can a color symbol be in the text and not be counted as its color identity? I thought it was things in parentheses...or italics.

So it's not the forest down there that makes it green, it's the color of that symbol. That green shade gives it an assumed color identity?

That is what I was referring too, I know that hybrid symbols are both color identities

Color identity is based on any Color the card refers to. A good example is  {Alesha, Who Smiles at Death}. Although you only need red mana to cast it, it's color identity is BRW because of the mana symbols
