Title: Etched Champion-no
Post by: Balefire Hellkite on February 23, 2015, 05:56:15 AM
Does anyone know a budget option for {Etched Champion} in an Affinity deck? Maybe an artifact with shroud? Unblockable?

I think you should be more worried about a budget option for {arcbond ravager}.  I do not mean to sound like an ass here but I would not consider $3 TCG low price card to be worthy of finding a budget option if you are playing competitive magic.

Agreed. If you want to play affinity and can't grab one of the cheaper cards, you shouldn't play affinity

That's kinda judgemental. There are plenty of ways to build a deck, and he can build however he wants.

Most of the community here has agreed the deck forums are for competitive builds......unless you post in casual or other.  No one is trying to be rude.....you just have a knowledgeable group.  Should we give bad advice then and say "run {drill-skimmer}"......because that is about as good as it gets in colorless?

^^^^^^^^^thats not helpful criticism. And some guys would get super offended or discouraged. I fully agree that ur suggestions are spot on. But telling them they shouldn't run the deck style over that is kinda abrasive

{Whispersilk Cloak} is the closest thing I could find. It's not nearly as good as {Etched Champion}, mostly because shroud interacts poorly with {Arcbound Ravager} and {Cranial Platting}. As has been said, budget affinity is not a very good deck.

...and cloak costs five, essentially.

Exactly. Unless you decide to go Tron affinity that's just too much.

As someone who plays Artifacts for Edh I can honestly say there is no good replacement for that card. If you're already not running it, maybe try {Master of Etherium}

This would only be if your trouble is availability not money

Just to get this clear, I can't fine {etched champion} for less than $6. And secondly, I have no problem spending $24 diollars on a playset, I was just curious to see if there was one remotely close to equality in power

Do you not buy online?  You get a lightly played playset on tcg for under $20.

{Etched Champion} Is pretty unique. I can't think of any good replacement for it...

As someone who recently built a full fledged affinity deck, if you go through starcitygames you can get a playset of etched champs for 12-15 dollars. The cards that are money are the ravagers and the Inkmoth and blink moth lands. As mentioned before, the TRON lands would be a good replacement but you gotta be wary of people playing competitively and using blood moons on you. There are really no replacements for etched champs sorry buddy and the person who said master of etheriums, they're actually more expensive than the champs at the moment. If you want a replacement for the arcbounds that serve a similar purpose Id get shrapnel blasts for instant speed and saccing your artifacts before an opponent can kill them with one of their spells. I mean it's not a great replacement but it's effective

I knew master was more expensive which is why I clarified availability

You can also wait a few months for modern masters 2 because if I'm not mistaken it will be in there as a rare

Yes it will be and it looks pretty sweet as well. I may buy a playset of the new ones and put my old ones in my binder just because I love how they look, but given the modern master set history im betting the price of them will be pricier than the original one just like the prices of the newer tarmogoyf, dark confidant, and snap caster mages all went up.
