Can someone please explain to me in what scenario it's better to attach {Cranial Plating} to a creature for {B}{B} rather than {1}?
That fact that one ability is at sorcery speed and one is at instant speed.
Also the BB version doesn't count as equipping the card, so it gets around "may not equip" rules.

What rule is this and what card requires it?
If you are talking about creatures with shroud , the {B}{B} ability clearly says "target creature".
{Goblin Brawler} is an example. He cannot be equipped but I believe he can be attached.
The relevant difference is instant speed "equip."
I feel dumb for not realizing the instant speed. Thanks everyone

Quote from CR wording of equip »
"Equip [cost]" means "[Cost]: Attach this Equipment to target creature you control. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery."
So no, you can't attach anything to {Goblin Brawler}.

You are correct. I did a little digging and the relevant ruling is that "equipment can not exist on goblin brawler." Which means you can target with the attach activation, but it will fizzle.
My apologies for the confusion.
Ahh yes I apologize. I was thinking of shroud but it does say target in the text.
