so we pulled a bunch of not-frequently used rares and uncommons together the other day to see what we could do for fun. We backed it up with extra uncommons to stabilize the decks.
High point of the match (my {G} vs her {B}) is she casts {Go for the Throat} on a manifested card VIA {WILDCALL} ({X}={7} in this case) and I manifest it for {G}{G} {Vastwood Hydra}. It does and I move all the counters to all my creatures and swing for lethal courtesy of {Tuskguard Captain}.
Fun
Since it was manifested, it shouldn't get the counters... So I don't think that works
I think x=0 at his point so the hydra would just die as a state based effect since its toughness is 0/0

Sorry to spit on your parade llama, but the hydra would flip up as a 0/0 and die as a state based action. :(
The only reason {Hooded Hydra} is so good with manifest, is the specific wording regarding it being flipped up

It's manifest cost is equal to its mana cost (not converted). He can pay for x in this case. He does have to pay the 7gg though. He doesn't get counters for free.
Your first two sentences are correct. After that is where you're missing a key portion. {Vastwood Hydra} is already on the battlefield. Flipping it up for its mama cost, whether {X} is 0 or 7, results in a creature that is a 0/0 by default and goes to the GY as a state based action.
702.36d (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=702.36d): Any time you have priority, you may turn a face-down permanent you control face up. This is a special action; it doesn't use the stack (see rule 115). To do this, show all players what the permanent's morph cost would be if it were face up, pay that cost, then turn the permanent face up. (If the permanent wouldn't have a morph cost if it were face up, it can't be turned face up this way.) The morph effect on it ends, and it regains its normal characteristics. Any abilities relating to the permanent entering the battlefield don't trigger when it's turned face up and don't have any effect, because the permanent has already entered the battlefield.

X is 0 for anything not on the stack. Manifest does not use the stack.

Sorry folks missed a card link, it was manifested with {Wildcall}, that was what X was....
Leave out one card and its a shitstorm all over my parade... Geez :)
Actually after the reread that was completely my bad as it looks like I cheated hardcore. Sorry friends, I wild called that hydra out for 9, putting 7 counters in it, upon its untimely demise I flipped it for GG and it was a 7/7 for that moment before death, then pooped out counters like a dying halo grunt with confetti (yay)
Oh yeah {Wildcall} would definitely work!
