For the past 3 hours, which for me was 10-1. My radical Mind has decided I am going to attempt to write a book. I've spent the past couple hours creating an outline. I'm hopping this new found hobby is a great way to let out some steam and share my thoughts. Has anybody attempted to write a novel before?
P.S. If all goes well I'm going to be posting some passages for some review from the community if you guys are intrested. 😃
I'm writing a short novel, the hardest part is writers block which I get all the time. Push through till you stop
I'm actually an aspiring writer and I participate in NaNoWriMo, a race to 50k words in the month of November (rough draft of course). I managed to grind out a bit over 50k and "finish" the novel. Three months later and I'm still working on the first draft (some call it second but I don't consider the rough draft number one).
Besides this I have had three other "serious" attempts. None of which are finished and none of which are likely to be finished.
Writing is an enjoyable process. Brainstorming and just going nuts getting the first draft onto paper is a fantastic experience. The problem is that I have "creators curse". I'm never satisfied with my work and no matter how many revisions I put it through it just sounds awful to me. Having others read my stuff helps but I'm usually much to shy (I have four people that want to read my NaNo and nobody has). You need to be able to take a chisel, or sometimes a sledgehammer to your work. But sometimes it's hard to pick up the tool instead of walking away.
Worry about little details later. Don't obsess over making all your days line up and the numbers and such work out. If you can't figure out a name put it in as *insert* and keep going (I've had to go all the way up to *insert3* before).
If you're stuck take a moment, ask yourself what happens next. Then make it happen, even if it's just "Dave breaks out of prison" instead of ironing out the details. You have all the time in the world, truly good books can take years to finish. Most of which is revision time.
I highly recommend that you don't fall into the traps of forcing yourself to write it all in order or posting it somewhere as it comes out. If you have a scene in mind go ahead and write it. It can be extremely difficult to write everything in order. (I've written all of mine in order but that was because of time restrictions or posting it. It's bloody difficult but not impossible.) Posting it somewhere as you write it means that if you want to change something it's too late. Do feel free to share, though. I'd love to read it. Just don't make any promises. :P
Hope this all made sense...I'm a tad sleep drunk. Good luck!
