Why are you playing islands? Just for {pongify} and {simic-sky swallower} in board? Why are those in board?

I'd run the new {Reality Shift} over {Pongify}. Exile > destroy and a 2/2 is easier to deal with. You run the risk if it being flip able but that's a low chance vs most decks. Or you could just run {Rapid Hybridilization} which is in colors.

EDIT: not {Rapid Hybridilization} I'll find it... {Beast Within}. More expensive but a catch all.

I'm assuming {Simic Sky Swallower} boards in vs control. There are better things IMO. You want something uncounterable. You could go with a {Vexing Shusher} or {Mistcutter Hydra}. The hydra is also good vs Merfolk and faeries, and then you have less reason to splash blue.

I'd run {Darksteel Collosus} or {Blightsteel Collosus} over {Collosus of Akros}.

Seems weird to splash blue and not run {Dispel} to deal with burn and counters.

The lands could use work. I recommend (in order of quality (IMO), obviously your budget may restrict) {Misty Rainforest}, {Breeding Pool}, {Hinterland Harbor}, {Flooded Grove}, {Yavimaya Coast}, {Temple of Mystery}, {Thornwood Falls}, {Simic Guildgate}. Basically, you'd be better off with dual lands over hoping you get an Island. {Evolving Wilds} could be good too.

This is the most important thing make your mana base do a lot of work for you instead of having to worry about have blue to cast something. Unless you do cut the blue then you don't have to worry.

Edits have been made. I'll try and get some {Misty Rainforests}, and {Emrakul Aeons torn} will be replacing the wurms as soon as I get them

Just make it mono green and add in {Nykthos Shrine to Nyx}, {Genisis Wave} and {See the Unwritten}

I'm still not sure I want this to be devotion based. This deck was formed around the interaction of the defender cards.
I tested with {see the unwritten} and it doesn't do as well as {summoning trap}

What about {Genesis wave}? How useful will that be?

See the unwritten is almost strictly better than Summoning trap. You don't need to be devotion based to run nykthos, just mono coloured, and Genesis wave hits like every card in your deck

But {see the unwritten} isn't an instant, and It puts the remaining cards in grave, which means I have no way of getting them back. Also, true it has a ferocious ability, but that only triggers in the presence of two creatures in my deck (since I took out the wurms for a Kiki combo), both of which pretty much win the game already

How many {nykthos, shrine to nyx} should I be running?

That honestly depends. Thanks to some legend rule abuse it's not totally insane to run four. However I'd stick with two.

Play no land, tap down with {Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx}, play another one and sac the tapped one, use the floating mana to activate the new one. Make sense?

Ah, yes I remember now. I've definitely done that more than once

Could {Summoners pact} be useful here?
