I made top eight, so I'm happy!
Was playing BUG Control.
2-0 vs Mardu Tokens.
Game one I managed to shut him down, he didn't play anything turn's one through three, which I was totally ok with. After that, I {Interpreted the Signs}, found a {Dig through Time}, drew eight cards, and it was all over from there.
Game two he had a better start, but I managed to set up a {Villinous Wealth} for twelve, and he just conceded once he saw what I flipped.
1-2 vs U/W Heroic
This was against {Kaalia with Haste}, it was a fun matchup, but he ended up just grinding me out. He just had more threats then I had removal.
2-1 vs U/W Heroic
This match was versus a kid who didn't really know what he was doing, even though he was super cocky. I crushed him game one, but game two I just struggled to find enough removal. My Digs found nothing but land. Game three, {Kiora, The Crashing Wave} managed to just barely keep me alive. I stabilized on four life after a {Crux of Fate}, found a {Pearl Lake Ancient}, and {Villainous Wealth} for twelve sealed the deal.
1-2 vs Jeskai Tokens
Game one, I countered and killed his stuff. He dropped a {Hordeling Outburst}, I responded with a {Bile Blight}, and that's how it went. He had a threat, I had an answer. A Wealth for 12 sealed it. Game two, he was able to stick a {Chandra, Pyromaster} and an {Elspeth, Sun's Champion}. Because of the lack of {Hero's Downfall} in my list, (budget issues) my deck just kind of turned over and died. Game three, I started off strong, but ended up having less and less cards in hand. I ended up with just a {Dictate of Karametra} in hand, but no Wealth to go with it! I just couldn't find it, and died. I felt like I should have won that last game, but overall, I achieved my goal.
As the intelligentleman said above we were at the same game day. Dimiroverlord was there too. I was playing UW heroic jank that I basically threw together the day before last game day so I could play and didn't have a sideboard or anything good, but the intelligentleman, being awesome, threw me a sideboard together and got me two valorous stances that I was missing. Thanks man! Anyways here's how it went for me:
Game 1: Mono-red. I've never played against mono red with UW heroic but it seemed like a pretty bad matchup. Game 1 I mulliganed to four and was able to stabilize thanks to chaining some ordeal of thassas together and my 2 main board ordeal of Heliods both made and appearance, along with seeker of the way to buy me some time. Was able to seal the deal at 5 life. Game 2 I went ham. He had to mull to 6, which is pretty bad for mono-red and I was able to outrage him with a T1 favored hoplite into t2 hero of Iroas into t3 double ordeal of thassa and win the game from there. 2-0
Game 2: playing against BUG control. Shoot. Decks that run removal spells are pretty solid against heroic. The intelligentleman has a solid description of what happened in his comment. 2-1
Game 3: I seriously have no idea how this deck got to be 2-0 to face me. From our short two games I saw this: crucible of the spirit dragon, dromoka, citadel siege and Pyxis of pandemonium. 2-0 no problem.
Game 4: Abzan midrange with a guest appearance of brimaz. Game 1 was pretty tough me for me but he just couldn't get the removal he needed to actually kill my guy. I ended up sending a lagonna band trailblazer over his head with a stratus walk enchanting. Ended up gaining a TON of life off of ordeal of Heliod bringing me up to roughly 55 life when I finished him off. Game 2 he had like 3 lands and 4 removal spells and I just couldn't get there. Game 3 we both mull to 5, he got stuck on two lands and a Rakshasa deathdealer which I dealt with with my singular copy of singing bell strike. I was casting spells and he wasn't. 2-1
Game 5: the mirror match but his deck was running stuff like shu yun and monastery mentor. I mull to 4 and he kept his 7 game 1. You can guess how that went for me. Game 2 I kept a mediocre 7 based off my experience the game before. Got shut down pretty hard by a gigantic battlewise hoplite.
Final record: 4-1, overall I took 3rd. I've only been playing for a little over a year so I'm pretty psyched and I think I'm gonna take standard a little more seriously now. Might build temur, might make UW heroic better. I dunno.
Won with ub control. Only lost 2 games all day
