Title: Talrand
Post by: Jlamb5 on February 10, 2015, 12:11:11 AM
im rebuilding a talrand deck that I played for a while but I don't want to pay for expensive stuff. Anyone have some recommendations for some mono U commander cards. I want to run it with a small amount of creatures and just tons of permission and tempo stuff, waiting to beat down with a drake army

Just run mono counterspell. Any and all counterspells you can think of.

I like card draw with talrand, it just keeps feeding into itself. Even 1 for 1 cards that simply replace themself ( {Gitaxian Probe}, and others like it that I can't think of at the moment). Also tempo cards that bounce creatures to their owners hand or the library. Your basically just controlling your opponent while it builds your board state. Just my opinion.

{Call to Heel} Sounds fun here because you can save one of your guys get a drake and a card out of it. At worst you'd give your opp a card and unsummon one of his big drops and get a drake.

{Mage's Guile},  {Mizzium Skin}, and  {Veil of Secrecy} to protect your commander and poop a drake in the process.

A lot of blue cards that have flashback will be good here because of their added value of pooping drakes. On that note  {Snapcaster Mage} Even though you don't want expensive stuff in there the fact that you can get 4/3 power on the board plus whatever the instant or sorcery benefit was is to powerful to pass up.

{Cast Through Time} It may have a high cost but it doubles the value of most of the spells you cast minus counter spells. Of course rebound and flashback doesn't really work well together.
